Tutu Tuesday in Kennewick, Washington #tututuesday

Hey Tutu Twirlers! It’s your girl, Amelia, bringing you another fabulous #tututuesday installment from the sunny (okay, sometimes drizzly) state of Washington! Kennewick is where I'm finding my tutu inspiration today. While the Pacific Northwest isn’t always known for its ballet scene, it's a beautiful place to twirl.

My Tutu Tuesday adventure started at the stunning Columbia Center for the Arts. It’s this amazing, old-timey building with soaring ceilings and just the right amount of grandeur. As a dancer, walking through its hallways was like entering another world.

I found a group of little ballerinas practicing for a production of "The Nutcracker" and they were in these gorgeous, traditional white tutus with lots of layers and netting. I mean, who doesn’t love the classic?

Later, I went to a dance studio where the energy was just electric! There was this amazing modern dancer who had her own interpretation of the tutu: a deconstructed, flowing design in a bright coral shade. It looked super comfy and effortless, yet powerful all at once. That kind of tutu speaks volumes!

Later, I headed out to the Kennewick waterfront. There was a little picnic with some friends and it got me thinking about the romanticism of ballet. The setting sun was reflected in the river, and even without being in a studio, I felt the rhythm of ballet all around. We even busted out a little twirling (with lots of laughs!). It just shows that the beauty of dance and the power of a good tutu can shine through in any setting.

Here's the rundown of what you NEED to know about Kennewick’s tutu scene:
  • There's definitely a ballet scene here. Kennewick has a vibrant dance community and the dedication to training shines through. I found that people were passionate about ballet, from the instructors to the students.
  • You can find anything from a traditional tutu to modern masterpieces in the dance studios here. They encourage different approaches to design, making the community a hub of artistic expression.
  • If you want to explore a little further, hop on down to the Tri-Cities area. There’s plenty of ballet around, from community productions to larger stages.
  • And don't forget to take your tutu for a twirl at the waterfront! There's nothing like a little sunshine and fresh air.
