Now, I know what you're thinking - "Tutus? In Sterling Heights? Really?" But trust me, you'd be surprised! This city might be known for its sprawling suburbs and love of the Detroit Tigers, but beneath its charming exterior lies a secret community of dance enthusiasts, and let's be honest, every dance enthusiast needs a killer tutu!
My journey to tutu paradise started at the local dancewear store, "Twirl & Flourish". It's like a wonderland for any dancer! They have everything from the classic romantic tutu with layers of delicate tulle to the sassy contemporary tutu with its playful cuts and vibrant colors. The staff was beyond amazing – they gave me the perfect amount of guidance, and let me be honest, it didn't hurt that they were totally in love with dance too!
Speaking of contemporary tutus, there was this one with a beautiful emerald green color, almost like a forest in a fairytale. The shape was totally unique - imagine a layered circle skirt but instead of being straight, it flowed outwards with each layer getting wider, almost like an underwater jellyfish. You bet I tried it on! The feeling was unreal! It was light and breezy and made me feel powerful yet graceful - basically, it was my dream tutu.
You see, tutus are more than just frilly dresses for dancing – they're an extension of a dancer's art. Every twist and twirl in a tutu tells a story! And in a city like Sterling Heights where ballet and other forms of dance are gaining popularity, I love the fact that these stores provide the essential tools for both professionals and amateurs like myself!
I even stopped by the "Encore Dance Boutique," known for its impressive selection of custom-made tutus. If you want to truly stand out, this is your place! The lady there, Miss Violet, said she loves bringing out the "inner star" of every dancer, which means tailoring their tutus to perfectly match their personalities and their style! The store feels like a time capsule, but with a modern edge. There's something so captivating about seeing tutus displayed against a vintage backdrop – it's like walking through the history of dance.
I ended my #tututuesday adventure at a little local store tucked away on a side street called "Whirlwind". They didn't have the fancy displays like the others, but what they lacked in fancy they made up for with the most genuine warmth and friendliness. They’ve been a fixture in the neighborhood for years and their prices were ridiculously affordable, even for a ballerinas budget. I picked up a couple of practice tutus – the soft pink and pale yellow one I've been craving. Now my little studio apartment will truly feel like a dance studio, haha.
