Tutu Tuesday in Roswell, New Mexico: A Tutu Takeover in the Land of Aliens

Hey everyone! It’s your girl, Sasha, back with another Tutu Tuesday adventure! This time, we’re soaring through the cosmos… well, maybe not exactly, but we’re definitely bringing some celestial style to the desert town of Roswell, New Mexico. You heard that right, folks! I’m taking Tutu Tuesday to the heart of the UFO craze, where I’m hoping to inspire some extra-terrestrial fashion with a whole lot of tutus and twirls.

I know, I know. You’re probably wondering, what on earth is a ballerina doing in Roswell, the home of alleged alien encounters? Well, to be honest, it was the first place that came to mind when I wanted to take Tutu Tuesday outside the box (or maybe the tutu box?). After all, who wouldn't want to wear a billowing, romantic tulle skirt while exploring the world's biggest alien mystery? Plus, who knows, maybe we'll even encounter a real-life extraterrestrial, who’ll be amazed by the art of ballet! It's about time those space visitors experienced a bit of earthbound elegance, right?

So, what’s a Tutu Tuesday adventure in Roswell like? Let’s just say, it’s a cosmic cocktail of fun and fashion. We started our day with a tour of the International UFO Museum and Research Center, a place filled with strange artifacts and stories of UFO sightings, a definite inspiration for tutu design! It’s hard not to feel inspired to design a collection based on Roswell’s out-of-this-world reputation and my inner fashion muse. Think of it, a dramatic tutu with neon green sequins inspired by a rumored spaceship, a black tutu reminiscent of the skies during a mysterious alien event or even a shimmering white tutu inspired by a flying saucer - now those are some looks that are out of this world! I even saw a few other brave souls rocking their tutus downtown. It was a sight to behold - especially considering they weren’t at the ballet!

Here’s my rundown of the must-have tutu styles in Roswell for #tututuesday, or as we call it #RoswellTutuesday!

  • The UFO Tutu: For this one, think voluminous and dramatic! The idea here is to evoke the image of a giant, mysterious flying disc soaring through the night sky. Choose a fabric like a swirling dark grey, almost as if you’re flying through space, and perhaps add some bright LED lights so that your movements will actually create a shimmering spaceship-like effect, as you twirl.
  • The Alien Encounter Tutu: You could take inspiration from this and create a simple and sleek, knee-length black tutu that has some silver metallic trim – imagine this on the back of the skirt in a straight, striking stripe, or with a black bodysuit with silver or white shimmer to really amp it up and match those cosmic skies! I was really digging that retro space vibe from the 60s at the museum and I got some awesome ideas from that, too.
  • The Stargazing Tutu: You can’t talk about space without stars, can you? It has to be something sparkly! Imagine a black tulle base and sprinkle on thousands of twinkling silver sequins that would glow like the Milky Way when you move around. You can add a pair of black ballet slippers to go for that celestial ballet feel. Or add a red beret to honor the planet Mars. I think either would work perfectly with the black, shiny stars.

After visiting the UFO museum, I felt like a different kind of ballerina altogether. This is a day for ballet lovers, fashion fans, and even aliens out there to enjoy. The alien craze gave a completely new spin on the world of tutus for me, especially since I’m so inspired by how much the people of Roswell embraced the idea of Tutu Tuesday and took it to new heights!

It turns out, even in the middle of the New Mexico desert, tutu-wear is an absolute sensation. The streets were filled with fellow #TutuTuesday lovers, even outside the museum, from folks sporting colorful ones, black ones and everything in between. It seemed everyone had embraced this out-of-this-world ballet trend. It makes me want to take my ballet company out on the road. Who needs to perform in a studio?

If you’re feeling bold and cosmic, you've got to bring the tutu spirit to the land of aliens, my friends. Roswell, New Mexico, you truly are out of this world – and that’s the reason we love you! So until our next adventure, keep your ballet shoes polished, your tutus twirling, and your cosmic fantasies flowing, and don’t forget: life is better in a tutu.
