Tutu Tuesday in Gilbert, Arizona: Tutu-ing Around Town

Hey dance fam! It's your girl, Lily, back with another #tututuesday post. This week, I'm taking my love for tutus out of the studio and onto the streets of Gilbert, Arizona, where the sun shines bright and the fashion is just as bold. I’m in Gilbert this week, hanging out with my family and checking out the vibrant arts scene, and you know what’s better than ballet? Ballet AND FASHION. Gilbert, Arizona has it all – fabulous shops, delicious eats, and of course, the Arizona Ballet which I just HAD to visit! This time around, I decided to take things a step beyond the classic romantic tutu (although those will always have my heart!). So, I hit up my local boutique in Tempe and got my hands on a super-cute pink tulle skirt with a little vintage feel – kinda like a modernized version of a “Giselle” skirt. I paired it with a floral print crop top and my trusty white sneakers. Because comfort is key for exploring Gilbert’s awesome public art scene. Tutu-ing Up the Town
What I loved about the pink tulle skirt, apart from the color, was the texture. This little number was stiff and full which means it didn’t move at all – great for sitting in cafes for hours on end. Because I was ready for a whole day of tutu-tastic fun, from hitting up the Farmer’s Market to strolling through the Gilbert Heritage District, there was so much to do and see! * Here's the thing, Gilbert, Arizona's got this awesome energy about it - it's laid-back but still really lively, and I felt like my tutu really helped me soak it all in. * First up was the Farmer's Market. Fresh produce, delicious artisan breads, and SO much good energy! A whole bunch of other peeps were there, dressed to impress, which was just an awesome boost to the mood! Tutus totally feel right at a market like this – they scream “let's celebrate life.” * Next stop was the Gilbert Heritage District. The vibes are 100% Instagram-worthy. Seriously, you can see all these amazing murals everywhere you go! So I rocked out the tutu for a photoshoot or twenty because this part of the town felt like my own personal ballet studio, but without all the barre work (and the teacher! ha!) Let's talk Tutu Style
The classic white Romantic tutu is definitely my go-to for any formal event or maybe a performance, but these other options – you guys are gonna love 'em! They're more versatile. So what are these fab new-wave tutu options that I’ve fallen head-over-heels for?

* The Modern Minimalist: If you're feeling like channeling a super clean and edgy look, try a short tulle skirt that’s a single layer of soft tulle – think “contemporary” ballerina. I’ve even seen some awesome interpretations that involve lace-up details. Pair it with some cool jeans, boots, and a bomber jacket. I've been totally diggin' these kinds of outfits lately for my after-class hangouts. * The Boho Dream: For all the free-spirits out there! If you’re feeling like a little hippie meets ballerina vibe, try a full tutu with embroidery and intricate details – this tutu is perfect for a music festival or even a beach day. You know I'll be bringing this tutu with me to Coachella – I'm thinking bright floral patterns and flower crowns. * The Edgy Edge: For you edgy trendsetters out there. The best part of these is the tulle layers are all chopped and uneven. These are basically a perfect combo of “rockstar meets dancer.” This is one I plan on wearing with some super high-fashion leggings and a distressed tank top and my fave studded leather jacket. It just screams, "I'm both powerful and graceful." #TutuTuesday on the Go
It’s not always easy to travel with a full, fluffy tutu (which is a common thing when it comes to classic romantic tutu). But there are still ways to #tututuesday on the go. You don’t need to pack your full skirt if you don't want to - a simple, short tulle skirt with a bold print or solid color works for a #tututuesday and there is plenty of ways to add that tutu flair! If you have a pair of tights that match one of your tulle colors you can create an illusion of a tulle skirt (although these should probably not be packed for traveling, as they can wrinkle easily) Tutus are a form of self-expression – just like dancing is. This #tututuesday I wore it, felt it, and lived it, and I really recommend it to everyone – no matter where you are in the world! Don't forget to show your #tututuesday adventures by tagging me on Instagram – I can't wait to see your pics. Happy twirling everyone!
