Tutu Tuesday in Cheshunt

Hello, lovelies! It’s Tutu Tuesday in Cheshunt and you know what that means, don’t you? Time to ditch the sweats, embrace the pink, and celebrate the timeless elegance of a classic tutu! This little twirling icon, so synonymous with dance, has always had a special place in my heart. Today, I'm taking you on a journey through the fabulous tutu world, highlighting some of my personal favourites.

So, let's be honest, Cheshunt isn’t exactly known for its cutting-edge fashion scene (no offense to the locals!), but every once in a while, even this unassuming little town can experience a fashion revelation. For those of you new to the area, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire is home to a surprisingly high number of dance schools. You know how it is – those budding little prima ballerinas and aspiring ballet stars, all need a gorgeous tutu. This means our local dancewear shops get a steady supply of these airy, dreamy little masterpieces in all their pink, peachy and plum glory! It’s the ultimate tutu heaven for someone like me!

The Classics

I’m a firm believer that a true tutu should be, above all else, practical, and you just can’t beat a traditional classical tutu for simple elegance and utility. These timeless beauties, usually crafted from multiple layers of delicate tulle, are all about graceful, sweeping movements, and they definitely make for a striking entrance. I'm talking about the iconic "The Nutcracker" tutu (and no, I don't mean the Clara one - the sugar plum fairy one!), with its layered, romantic design.

  • You just can’t get enough of those floaty tiers that are so intricately stitched together - a ballet dancer's best friend for showing off elegant, precise movement, you know? They are essentially, like, tiny mini-skirts made entirely of sheerness. If you’re on a tight budget (ballet gear is notoriously expensive), the traditional tutu is the way to go – they’re surprisingly affordable and so easy to care for – a bit of a bonus if you happen to live near an equally “surprising” flock of local pigeons (hello Cheshunt!).

Stepping Out

Of course, for us ballerinas, the stage isn’t the only place to show off our love of twirling tulle. Let's get real – sometimes even *we* feel like kicking off our ballet slippers, throwing on our most glamorous outfit and strutting our stuff somewhere a little less formal like, I don’t know, a party or maybe a cheeky evening out. (Let’s be honest, those parties don't happen much in Cheshunt!). But if we want to *dress* the part, we need to get creative! Now this is where those *more daring* tutus come in handy…

  • We’re not talking "Gone with the Wind," no sir, we're looking for some fashion-forward inspiration here. Take it from someone who's tried and tested everything: You can easily add a contemporary flair to the classic silhouette. Think sleek lines, fitted bodice, and bold colours!
  • And that leads me beautifully into my favourite type of tutu: The **romantic**, dreamy **contemporary tutu.** Remember the scene in “Black Swan?” (Don't pretend you've never watched it - *all* dancers love “Black Swan”! It's basically our *Shakespeare*!). Remember how Natalie Portman is completely *transformative*? This is what contemporary tutus do.
  • For instance, it could be a stunning, slightly asymmetric design with sheer, dramatic overlays - perfectly suited for both stage and everyday wear. (Don't worry, no feathers - at least, not when I'm out shopping. That’s what feather boas are for!). A little less rigid and a whole lot more sophisticated. Oh, I just love those graceful layers!
  • If *you’re* thinking, “I'm *definitely* rocking a tutu to my next coffee catch-up”, I can almost *guarantee* you’ll be the best-dressed person there. I bet everyone would be asking “Where did you get that amazing tutu?! ” And you, darling, could answer nonchalantly – “Oh, I picked it up in Cheshunt!”. I can’t see them believing you, though. It’ll just add to your mystique!
  • Then again, * maybe* I shouldn’t get ahead of myself! It could be pretty dramatic – wearing a full, flowing tutu in the middle of Cheshunt could end up looking a little more "ballet class gone wrong" than "fabulous street-style chic", Especially if you try to do the Cheshunt town centre “duckwalk”. Believe me - it's not a good look.

Don’t Forget to Dance!

But whether you choose the classic or the contemporary, remember: A tutu is more than just an outfit, it’s an attitude. It's about being confident, elegant, and free. So twirl, pirouette, and let your inner ballerina shine through! No matter where you are, *Cheshunt or not*, never be afraid to express yourself through dance – you deserve to be the *dancing queen* no matter where you go.

Oh, and you definitely need to tag those dreamy Tutu pics on your Insta feed with #TutuTuesday! Trust me, there are so many like-minded tutu lovers out there – I’ve already met some great tutu people!

Let’s be honest – most Cheshunt locals couldn’t imagine walking through the town with a full tutu. But they are definitely in for a fashion revelation. Who knows, maybe one day soon, we’ll be dancing through Cheshunt's streets all together! Just imagine the smiles and head turns we would get - *we’d* be the centre of attention!

Stay twirling, ladies! #tututuesday
