East Ham Tutu Tuesday: A Fashionable Frenzy

It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means - #tututuesday! The day dedicated to twirling and twirling and oh, the twirling, in my beloved tulle. East Ham, my neighbourhood, is buzzing with excitement, and as the fashion-forward, ballet-obsessed blogger, I’m ready to dive in!

You'd be surprised how much variety you find when it comes to tutus, especially in the wonderful mix of cultures and styles here in East Ham. There are the classic romantic tutu, with layers of soft, gauzy tulle - perfect for dreaming of grand ballerinas in grand ballrooms. You have the more practical, and surprisingly stylish, rehearsal tutu. It's durable, usually made with tougher, layered netting. But don't think that it lacks flair - it can have bright pops of color, or even cool geometric designs!

Then, we have the super sassy 'poupee' tutus, so named because they give the impression of a porcelain doll with those exaggerated layers. But this tutu isn't just for whimsical princesses. It's an actual dance favourite. Just imagine yourself sweeping across the stage in that voluminous swirl!

I mean, how could we possibly forget about the "Modern Ballerina?" You’ve got those shorter tutus - a modern take on the classic. This one might look like a sleek, minimalist skirt but don’t let it fool you! You’ve got loads of flexibility and space to showcase your fierce moves!

But, if we’re talking East Ham, we need to bring in the unexpected twist! Let's talk about those "fusion tutus!" You see them at a street fair or a cultural celebration! Take the traditional Indian lehenga – it’s basically a stunning, wide skirt - but with the right flowy fabric and a sprinkle of imagination, it's the perfect, modern interpretation of a tutu.

But you know what’s even cooler about East Ham Tutu Tuesday? This town isn’t just about traditional tutus; It's a full-on fashion fiesta! There’s always something innovative and new happening here. We have a diverse community, from hip hop dancers, ballroom lovers, Bollywood enthusiasts, streetwear trendsetters … you name it, we have it, all dancing and showcasing their love for a tutu with their unique twist!

Just the other day I found this quirky cafe that did an awesome Tutu Tuesday brunch. It was such a good vibe! They had their brunch menu with items like 'the ballerina omelette' and a delicious 'tutu smoothie', all served with adorable mini tutus on each table.

The real joy is witnessing how people of all ages embraced this #tututuesday vibe! It wasn’t about conforming to one kind of fashion - it was about finding your style, your expression, your twirl.

Tutu Tuesday Spotlight: Street Style

Now, let’s take a look at some of the street style I saw! Because let’s face it - street style is always where the true magic of #tututuesday comes alive!

1. "Classic Romance:" You’ve got the girl with the soft pink tutu and the prettiest lace bodice paired with those ballet flats . Her eyes were sparkling! You can tell she's a ballet lover dreaming of her first professional dance. 2. "Streetwear Tutu Mix": Let's get real, some people do street style better than others. But one of the looks I fell in love with was a cool teenager, who had the classic pink tutu with a modern edge. Her outfit consisted of a crop top, leather jacket and funky kicks! This look proved that the classic tutu can adapt to any trend!

3. "The Ethnic Fusion:" Here is my favourite look, the girl with her black ballet skirt but she added layers and layers of fabric - maybe it was velvet, or satin – a complete explosion of colors and embellishments, you just had to give her a "Wow"

The Community Spirit

If you know anything about East Ham, you know the sense of community here is a vibe you just can't describe. The East Ham people make #tututuesday even more special, a space for individuality and creativity. We all come together to celebrate dance, art and each other. It's an afternoon filled with laughter and good energy.

But you know what? The best part about Tutu Tuesday? We get to bring some light-hearted fun and excitement to East Ham! Who knew dancing with a tutu could do that?

What I Wore

For East Ham Tutu Tuesday I wanted to go for the traditional style! I went for my favourite rehearsal tutu! it's white with some lovely blue-grey details! My inspiration for the day is Misty Copeland and I wanted to reflect the grace and powerful energy of her performances! So I added a black halter top with a bold graphic print. For my accessories, I used a delicate silver chain and some stylish ballet flats, a modern take on a classic.

So, if you find yourself in East Ham on a Tuesday, and want some seriously good fun join in on #tututuesday – it’s an awesome celebration for all things dance! And who knows? You might just see me!
