Tutu Tuesday in Weston-super-Mare: A Whirlwind of Feathers, Lace, and a Dash of Seaside Charm

Hey, darlings! It's your girl, Chloe, back with another blog post, this time fresh from the delightful seaside town of Weston-super-Mare. As you know, every Tuesday is #TutuTuesday for me, and this week I couldn't resist the call of the coast. I mean, imagine the pictures: the vibrant colours of the seaside promenade, the soft breeze tousling my hair, and of course, my tulle-licious tutu twirling under the sunshine! It's the ultimate blend of ballet and seaside chic, don't you think?

Let's be real, a tutu just has this way of making you feel magical. Even when you're just strolling along the pier or grabbing a scoop of fish and chips (which I totally recommend!), it adds a touch of whimsy and confidence. I always feel like a graceful ballerina ready to leap across the sands and maybe even do a little impromptu pas de deux with the seagulls. 🦢 😂

This Tuesday, I opted for a classic, romantic tutu with a romantic, ruffled skirt that danced with the sea breeze. It was a true princess-worthy number. The shade was a light blush, perfect for reflecting the warmth of the sun, and it had delicate, delicate sequins that shimmered in the light. You know me, I always have to have a bit of sparkle in my life!

Speaking of sparkle, there are so many incredible tutu styles to choose from, from classic Romantic to modern, contemporary. If you're new to the Tutu Tuesday scene, let me tell you: it's all about embracing your inner ballerina, no matter your skill level. A tutu can be as simple or as extravagant as you like. For those who want a statement piece, there are those dramatic tutus with billowing, layers upon layers of tulle. Picture a swirling, dream-like cloud, if you will! For a more casual feel, a shorter tutu is perfect, like the adorable tutu-skirts that are all the rage right now. And for the minimalist, you can even just add a touch of tulle to your outfit! Imagine, a gorgeous tutu as an elegant scarf! What's even better, is that most places like to host tutu parties. If you happen to be in Weston-super-Mare, try searching #TutuTuesday on your favorite social media platform - you might even be lucky enough to find one. I was even lucky enough to bump into a bunch of other tutu enthusiasts! Everyone had the brightest smiles and contagious energy.

Let's Get Real: What are Tutu Styles All About?

The truth is, tutus can be intimidating. A few years ago, when I started my #Tututuesday adventure, it felt like there was some kind of strict rules - you need this, you need that. I was so overwhelmed I nearly just stayed in my tracksuit! So, here's what I discovered after talking with a bunch of seasoned tutu-lovers.

The first style you'll usually come across is the Romantic Tutu, you know the princess-style with all those billowing layers and an enchanting lightness. They're often worn in classical ballet, and it's what everyone thinks of when someone says 'tutu'. You'll often see it in romantic, enchanting roles, like Aurora in Sleeping Beauty.

If you want a slightly more structured tutu with a bit of a sleek silhouette, then a Classical Tutu might be what you are after! They're a bit shorter than Romantic Tutut with a conical shape. Imagine if you took that classic Romantic shape and took some of the fullness out at the bottom. It’s a great, almost 'ballroom dancing' type of look! You can even find them in a variety of different lengths from knee length to calf length depending on the look that you want to achieve.

And of course, there is The Contemporary Tutu - the rule-breaker! If your style is modern and you want to have a lot of fun playing with fashion, this is the tutu for you! Contemporary tutus are usually short with an a-line, and can sometimes be even shredded. These beauties aren’t meant to look graceful like other tutu styles - their look is to represent movement and the power of movement.

My Seaside Style: A tutu with a view

As I sashayed along the promenade, the wind whipped around me, creating a whirlwind of tulle. I felt like I was twirling in my own little ballet, and that was when I saw it - a beautiful vintage caravan adorned with a "Tutu Tea Party" sign. Naturally, I had to go inside and see what the fuss was about.

Inside was a little world of magic. The owners, a lovely couple named Alan and Jane, had transformed the caravan into a charming tearoom filled with tutus and whimsical decorations. We shared stories about our favourite tutu looks (it seems every tutu lover has a story - a tutu they saved for a special occasion, the one they accidentally got drenched in water!) as we sipped lemon and ginger tea with a delicious homemade Victoria sponge cake, and let me tell you, every sip was pure bliss. The cake tasted like sugar, love, and a tiny hint of seaside! It was an unexpected highlight to my #TutuTuesday!

While in Weston-super-Mare, I also popped into one of the vintage clothing stores. I discovered the most gorgeous 1950's tutu-like dress with a billowing, full skirt, adorned with lace details and sweet, little buttons. The colour was a divine sage green, so soft, yet elegant - it's something straight from my imagination, if I’m being honest! It was perfect, and the shop assistant said she'd never seen such a dreamy tulle and tulle outfit before!

And, in keeping with the seaside spirit, I added some delicate, pale-blue beads to match the ocean. It's amazing what you can do with some thread, some string, and your imagination. Tutu-ing up doesn’t have to cost the world!

Of course, a little Tutu Tuesday outing wouldn't be complete without a photoshoot with the beautiful, pastel sunrise. You’ll see all about it in the photos I’ve added - just keep an eye out for a certain ballerina doing the swan lake. You can also catch more photos on my Instagram, I will definitely have my highlights set up ready!

And so, another #TutuTuesday came to an end, leaving me filled with joy, inspiration, and a newfound appreciation for Weston-super-Mare's charms. If you're looking for a destination where you can dance in style and indulge in all the magic a tutu can offer, I suggest heading to this beautiful seaside town. You’ll find more inspiration there than you know what to do with - just take my word for it.

But more importantly, remember: Every Tuesday is a day to celebrate the ballerina within you, even if you never quite mastered the "Fouetté". Because whether you’re dancing down the promenade, exploring a vintage caravan tea shop, or just strutting around the supermarket with a full-blown tutu and a shopping trolley - you can be as fabulous and fun-loving as your heart desires. #TutuTuesday Weston-Super-Mare. I'll be there next week with new twirls and new inspiration to share.

Until then, happy twirling!
