Tutu Tuesday in Kenton: A Ballet Dancer's Delight

So, it's Tuesday, which means it's Tutu Tuesday, the day I get to indulge in my absolute favourite part of being a ballet dancer: the tutu! For all you non-ballet peeps out there, let me tell you, there's nothing quite like swirling around in a cloud of tulle. It's like a mini-princess moment every time you wear one. And today, I decided to make my tutu debut in Kenton. Why Kenton? Because, my dears, Kenton's got a new little ballet boutique called The Pointe Shop, and it's an absolute gem.

Now, let's talk tutu styles. We're not just talking about the traditional, super-fluffy, four-layered Romantic tutu here (although, those have a certain elegance, don't they?). The Pointe Shop is bursting with a mix of classical and contemporary tutus that are perfect for all levels of dancers. We've got everything from the classic, floor-length Romantic tutus to the playful, shorter contemporary tutus, and everything in between.

Personally, I'm a bit obsessed with the "illusion" tutu trend right now. These tutus use a combination of netting and sheer fabrics to create the illusion of a shorter, more flowing skirt, perfect for contemporary ballets where a lighter look is preferred. And speaking of illusions, did I tell you they've got these incredible "feather" tutus? They're literally covered in feather-like trim, and they look absolutely stunning under stage lights. If you're looking to make a statement, this is the tutu for you.

The Pointe Shop also carries a wide range of accessories, from tights and shoes to hair pieces and jewellery. So, even if you don't have a tutu on your list, you can still stock up on some dance essentials and find the perfect finishing touches for your next performance. Trust me, their range of sparkly hair bands will add just the right touch of glam to your stage look.

After perusing The Pointe Shop, I took my tutu and went for a little ballet walkabout in Kenton. It was quite amusing to see people's reactions - some were mesmerized by the tutu, others gave me quizzical looks (one bloke even asked me if I was auditioning for a panto). But it was all good fun, and I felt like a little ballet princess conquering the streets of Kenton.

Kenton itself is quite a charming town, and I have to say, the atmosphere felt pretty welcoming. After my little ballet escapade, I indulged in a delightful cuppa and a slice of Victoria sponge at the cutest little tea room called "The Bakehouse." They've got these adorable mismatched teacups that just scream vintage charm, and their cakes are absolutely divine! My tummy was full, my heart was happy, and my Tutu Tuesday was complete!

Here are my favourite Tutu Tuesday finds at The Pointe Shop in Kenton:

  • A “fluffy, feathered” tutu: A perfect example of how contemporary and classical styles can blend to create something new. I just love the drama of feathers cascading around your legs, and it adds such a dramatic look when twirling.
  • A contemporary style tutu: With less layering, a more modern silhouette and perfect for a range of contemporary pieces.
  • An array of hair accessories - think crystal headbands and flower hairpieces. I am absolutely going to wear these with my tutu, they bring such a delightful dose of sparkle to a look.

Some top tips for choosing the perfect tutu:

  • Think about the style of dance you're going to wear it for. Do you want something fluffy and romantic or something more modern and minimal?
  • Consider your height and body shape when choosing a tutu. A shorter tutu might be flattering on someone petite, whereas a longer tutu could be more suitable for someone taller.
  • Experiment with different lengths and colors until you find something that you love.
  • Make sure you try on a tutu before you buy it. This way, you can get a sense of how it will feel to wear it and make sure it's the perfect fit.

And, ladies (and gents!), let's not forget: the perfect tutu can add a touch of magic to any dance, whether you're performing on a grand stage or just practicing in your own living room. So embrace the joy of tutu-ing! If you ever see me strutting my stuff around Kenton in my tutu, feel free to give me a shout! And, remember, it's Tutu Tuesday every Tuesday, so find your own little piece of tutu magic wherever you may be! #tututuesday.

Kenton, you truly are a tutu-licious town!
