Tutu Tuesday in Nantes, Pays de la Loire, France: #tututuesday

G'day lovelies! It's your girl, Emma here, from the cobblestone streets of Nantes in the Pays de la Loire region of France. This week's #tututuesday finds me amidst the buzzing French ballet scene exploring the city's historic beaches, grand cathedrals, and the unique artistry of its dance community. Now, I'm not just a fashion blogger, but also an aspiring ballerina. So, when it comes to tutus, I'm a little obsessed! And let me tell you, the French gals have their own fabulous take on this classic dancewear.

To start with, it’s hard to resist the charming cobblestone streets of Nantes. Here, the locals embrace a slow pace of life and relish in their time spent exploring the many quaint shops and markets the area has to offer. Nantes has this effortlessly stylish vibe, with women effortlessly pulling off a classic French chic look, often adorned with their signature silk scarves and simple elegance. Now, imagine this charm blended with the elegant dance culture of the ballet world. It's a recipe for sartorial heaven! I can't even tell you how many tutu variations I spotted just in this past week. There's the romantic ballerina - a go-to for local dancers here - adorned with wispy tutus, tulle skirts, and a dash of lace for a Parisian dream look. They definitely own that delicate femininity, but then you’ve got the classic ballet-inspired pieces like tulle skirts paired with a relaxed T-shirt. Talk about everyday ballet vibes. This is what I like to call “French chic ballet wear" – just right for both ballet and daily adventures.

Of course, no Parisian ballet trip is complete without hitting up the iconic Opéra de Nantes. The history behind this theatre goes way back, like, back to the 18th century! But let's focus on the modern ballet scene. This historic theatre brings classic ballet pieces to life. In fact, last night I attended a captivating performance. I saw stunning tutus in full swing, like, the grand romantic tutus - that's your classic "Sleeping Beauty" fairytale look - they were just incredible. Imagine floor-length tutus, billowing in a dreamy haze with these extravagant feather adornments! It was like I was transported to a fantasy land! They had smaller "tutu de pointe" or “toe shoes” designs, a little more pared back but still making a bold statement. And even better? The intricate stitching - the Frenchies definitely nail it when it comes to embroidery.

It's more than just the visual aspect of it all, though. The dancers in Nantes have an almost inherent grace in their movement - that Parisian finesse is undeniable! They move like liquid silk. It's hard not to get completely engrossed in the passion they have for their art. Honestly, I am just so inspired. I even tried a class at a local ballet studio in the historic Old Town, Atelier de la Danse, while I'm here!

My favorite find during this whole adventure? An exclusive vintage dancewear shop, "La Danse Retro." I mean, talk about vintage couture! You'll find everything from stunning embroidered tulle to feathered boas and sparkling rhinestones galore. I walked out with a gorgeous powder-blue silk tulle tutu - I'm still floating on cloud nine! You can't get this kind of sartorial treasure at just any old dance shop, and this is definitely my most coveted vintage tutu. The kind you wear to that special Parisian ballet.

So, if you ever find yourself exploring the charming city of Nantes, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for tutu treasures! From chic street style to world-class ballet performances, Nantes embraces its connection to ballet with style, creativity and genuine love for the art. It’s a beautiful experience to embrace this ballet-infused French chic aesthetic – an artful blend of vintage fashion, history and Parisian style. Until next time, lovelies!
