Tutu Tuesday in Lorient, Brittany, France: A Dancer's Paradise #tututuesday

G'day, fellow dance lovers! It's your girl, Lily, here, reporting live from the vibrant city of Lorient in Brittany, France. The sun is shining, the croissants are fresh, and I'm totally smitten with the charming, historic vibe of this seaside town. But you know what else has me dancing with joy? The amazing ballet scene here!

Today, it's Tutu Tuesday, and I'm soaking up the ballet magic in Lorient. Now, I'm no stranger to tutus, as a seasoned professional (well, semi-pro), I've had my fair share of tutus in my time. We've got our classics, the romantic, floaty, gossamer tutus for Giselle and Swan Lake, the structured and dramatic tutus for Don Quixote, and those absolutely breathtaking tutus for ballets like La Bayadere ā€“ they're simply mesmerising. But the ones I truly adore? The ones with a bit of flair, a hint of modern design, you know, the ones that break the mould a bit. Thereā€™s something special about a tutu that makes you stop and say, 'Wow, that's different, but it totally works!'. And thatā€™s what I found in Lorient!

Stepping into Lorientā€™s ballet studio, I was greeted with a chorus of enthusiastic "Bonjour!" This is no ordinary ballet school, it's like a mini-universe for dancers, filled with vibrant energy. Theyā€™ve got a stunning collection of tutus for their repertoire, ranging from the classics to some modern takes on ballet. I was particularly smitten with this stunningly simple yet impactful tutu, it was a classic design in a bold, electric-blue, something out of a dream. I tried it on, feeling like I was gliding across the clouds. I swear, my leap felt higher than ever!

After a brief but invigorating warm-up with a charming, fiery instructor who spoke broken English, which actually made me feel right at home ā€“ everyone's a bit of a mix-mash here, in a good way. The vibe is so friendly and welcoming ā€“ I couldn't wait to try my hand (or rather, feet) at their class.

And talk about an experience! The French have a special flair for ballet, you know. The elegance, the precision, it's mesmerizing. While I'm not quite as smooth as they are, (there were some major face-palming moments when I got lost in the footwork, but we won't talk about that!), they definitely taught me a few things. Turns out, you can learn something new, no matter how long youā€™ve been dancing. And you know what else? I discovered that everyone loves Tutu Tuesday, whether they are professional or aspiring dancers. It's a universal language of dance that transcends borders, bringing us all together!

Hereā€™s my takeaway from Tutu Tuesday in Lorient:

  • French ballerinas definitely have that certain je ne sais quoi ā€“ thereā€™s a elegance about their movements that just makes me smile.
  • The tutu truly makes the dancer ā€“ itā€™s like your ā€œballet superheroā€ suit!
  • Every place in the world has its own style of ballet ā€“ itā€™s like travelling through time, exploring dance styles from different cultures and eras!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, tutu Tuesday is my absolute favorite day of the week! The tutus are pretty magical, donā€™t get me wrong, but it's about so much more. It's about the shared love for dance, for expressing yourself through movement, and finding that magic within the art of ballet. You can't find this energy anywhere else! So here's to Tutu Tuesdays in Lorient and beyond! Let's dance our way through the world, one tutu-filled step at a time.
