Roanne, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France: Tutu Tuesday in the Heart of France!

G'day lovelies! It's your gal, Clara, back from another whirlwind trip across the globe, this time landing right in the charming city of Roanne, France! Let me tell you, I’m smitten with this place, the architecture, the food, the people, even the weather – well, it's been a bit cooler than I’m used to but who's complaining, it’s perfect for those comfy layers, right?

But hold on to your pom poms because we're not talking fashion faux pas, no sir. We're here for the grand unveiling of...Tutu Tuesday, folks! Yep, that's right. It's a day where this ballet obsessed Aussie dives headfirst into the magical world of ballet tutus. Here in Roanne, it's like a dream come true, not just the city's rich culture and history, but there’s also this whole thing about how ballet holds such a prominent spot in French hearts and I, for one, am living for it!

It's not just about those big, dreamy, traditional tutus that twirl so gracefully, but all the different styles of tutus, you know, like those classic ones that go all the way to the floor? *cue the "Swan Lake" vibes* They are like little works of art that tell stories. I'm talkin' about those intricate fabrics, the soft ruffles, those little hand-sewn details that create the magic you see in every graceful move.

And then, there's the modern tutu – sassy, bold and ready to shake things up! It’s still pretty with its own distinctive design and flowy skirt, and the way it allows dancers to really express their strength and power, just captivating, love it! In Roanne, these styles are everywhere – you see them at the local dance schools, at the workshops in the studios, even those ballet-themed themed events… everywhere! It's simply mesmerizing.

Now, you know I love to immerse myself in the heart of local life. So, I spent some quality time at a dance school called the École de Danse de Roanne. It was pretty magical! They offered classes from tiny tots to adults, you know, something for everyone. As I sat there watching the class in progress, it dawned on me, every move felt like poetry. Every dancer showed their passion for ballet, the joy was simply infectious! They all were working towards perfecting the art of storytelling through movement, it was all so beautiful and powerful.

It’s a fact: every tutu has its own story, a glimpse of the dancer's journey and all those emotions they channel into every leap and twirl. This "Tutu Tuesday" journey in Roanne, I felt, wasn’t just about me experiencing the elegance and grace of dance, but it was about discovering something so much more! A new appreciation for the art and history of ballet itself, it was a bit life-changing, tbh.

As I was leaving the dance school, my eyes caught sight of the most charming local ballet store, you wouldn't believe the treasures I found! Rows upon rows of gorgeous tutus hanging proudly, all in those vibrant shades – soft pastel hues, bold ruby red, or a touch of shimmering gold, my oh my, just dreamy! I'd have snapped up a new one for myself, if only I wasn’t living out of a suitcase, you know how it is, always on the go!

After soaking up all the ballet vibes, I thought it’s time for a spot of lunch with a twist, a place with a little magic, naturally! That's how I landed at Le Bistrot de l’Opéra, just down the street, you guys, you have to check this place out!

I went for the classic French cuisine – duck confit and some delicious red wine! Talk about perfect match, no need for ballet slippers! It was in this cozy space with its exposed brick walls and vintage chandeliers that I decided I had to get some photos with a little help from my trusty phone. I am always snapping and taking note, the memories and photos help keep my journal fresh, ya know, and all those experiences with that extra visual magic!

Roanne, you were so charming! You gave me so much, this dance journey with every move I made through the streets, to that Parisian feeling with the delightful little bakeries on every corner, to those long, meandering streets lined with antique stores. It truly made for the perfect #TutuTuesday escape. And I gotta say, those dance shoes of mine, never left my side!

But wait, there's more! My "Tutu Tuesday" adventure in Roanne wasn't just about dance and tutus! I stumbled upon a few hidden gems in this city, and let me tell ya, you’re going to love these!

First stop? A local chocolatier – you know, every sweet tooth needs a little pick-me-up! I totally lost myself in rows of boxes brimming with hand-crafted chocolate. Now I'm talking artisanal creations! From decadent truffles to sophisticated pralines, and oh boy, let’s not forget those delicate chocolate flowers – seriously stunning!

And to top it all off, there was this cute little book shop on one of the cobblestone streets, the smells of ink and paper transporting me to another time. And trust me, you don’t want to miss their collection of classic French literature – think Balzac, Hugo, Dumas! I managed to sneak in a vintage edition of "Madame Bovary", perfect souvenir of this whole Roanne experience!

As the sun set on Roanne, I knew it was time for me to head to my hotel, but I left with my heart filled with memories and a whole new appreciation for this vibrant French city. From those mesmerizing ballet lessons at the dance studio, to those exquisite chocolate delicacies and those classic literature gems – this “Tutu Tuesday” adventure in Roanne truly exceeded my expectations. This city has such an undeniable charm and that sense of warmth and wonder, which left a lasting impression, like a ballerina's graceful silhouette etched in my mind. I can't wait to come back!
