Tutu Tuesday in Fâches-Thumesnil, Hauts-de-France, France #tututuesday G'day lovelies! It's your girl, Maddie, back from another whirlwind adventure, this time taking me all the way to Fâches-Thumesnil, Hauts-de-France! You wouldn't believe the incredible ballet scene here. It's a world away from my little Aussie dance studio, and yet somehow, it feels like a homecoming. This Tuesday, I was invited to join a special workshop at the *Centre National de la Danse*. And, guess what? I got to strut my stuff in a **gorgeous Romantic-style tutu**, all billowing tulle and delicate embroidery. Just like something straight outta the 19th century, but with a touch of modern flare! It felt so liberating to twirl in that ethereal fabric, to really let the spirit of ballet dance free!
The French really do ballet like no one else! It’s not just about the moves; it’s a whole experience. They treat dance as art, as a celebration of human expression. There’s such passion in their every gesture, every step. And I couldn’t resist joining the throng of ballet enthusiasts here!
This town has so much character, it really reflects the artistry of the dance. It’s like the whole place is humming with creative energy, you know? Everywhere I look there’s history and beauty - think ancient churches with stunning stained glass, quaint cobbled streets, and delicious patisseries with those amazing **macarons**. (Okay, maybe I’m getting a bit distracted - but can you really blame a girl?)
The *Centre National de la Danse* is a haven for dancers of all ages. They've got everything you could imagine from studios to workshops, a costume and set design museum – it’s a real treat for the eyes and the soul! I mean, even the lighting is designed to complement the movements of the dancers – pure art, my dears!
What’s particularly special about the ballet scene in Fâches-Thumesnil is the passion they have for teaching and sharing knowledge. At the Centre, there are so many experienced dancers passing down their wisdom, nurturing young talent, and promoting a love for dance across all generations. It’s seriously heartwarming, you know?
I had a chat with some local ballerinas during the workshop and they told me about all the amazing classical performances in the area. I even spotted some contemporary pieces being rehearsed - you know me, I’m always down to try something new, and I can tell you, those contemporary movements are definitely pushing the boundaries of traditional ballet!
During the workshop, we did a fun exercise where we learned how to work a **classical pointe shoe** without actually having to be on pointe. Talk about a new challenge! And for you ladies out there who know the struggle of finding the perfect fit, I just have to say that the fit of those classic pointe shoes is next level! The design and construction, the whole thing felt like it was designed with my foot in mind - which made my dancer's heart sing!
I wouldn't be a true Aussie ballerina if I didn't bring a bit of the Sunshine Coast with me, so of course, I added some personality to my #tututuesday look by wearing a vibrant floral head wreath. You know, just a little touch of home. And it paired perfectly with the pastel palette of my **tutu - it's all about a dash of playful whimsy, right?**
I have to tell you about a hilarious incident I experienced while practicing with some of the local students! Apparently, "a tutu goes 'whoosh!'", you know, the way the tulle moves as you pirouette, is a real thing in Australia! And let me tell you, it’s a sight that just cracks me up.
Fâches-Thumesnil may be a smaller town, but it boasts a heart filled with ballet. You can definitely feel the spirit of dance, and it was truly inspirational being surrounded by so much passion and talent. It made me feel like I was on the verge of discovering something big!
If you're ever in the area, definitely visit the Centre, catch a performance, and get lost in the world of French ballet. You'll be saying "C’est magnifique!" in no time, trust me.
