Tutu Tuesday in Blaxland, New South Wales: A Celebration of Dance and Fashion

Hey dance fam, it’s your girl, Amelia, back with another dose of tutus and tales! I’ve always been a firm believer that a little bit of sparkle and twirl can brighten even the dullest of days. So when Tutu Tuesday rolls around, you know I’m ready to unleash my inner ballerina.

Now, Blaxland, New South Wales may not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of ballet. But trust me, we’ve got some seriously dedicated dancers here! From the young tykes learning their first pirouette at the local studio, to the seasoned pros who still make time for their love of the art, this town knows how to appreciate a good plié.

So, when Tutu Tuesday rolled around this week, I knew exactly where to go to celebrate. I’m talking about Blaxland Dance Academy, my dance home for years. With its gorgeous, light-filled studios, the air always buzzes with a vibrant energy that’s infectious. As soon as I stepped through the door, I was greeted with smiles and a friendly "G’day!".

But it wasn't just the studio that had me in a twirling frenzy. The day was all about those incredible, tulle-tastic tutus. From the classic romantic tutu, with its soft, flowing layers and romantic elegance, to the dramatic pointe tutu, with its sleek, tight lines that demand attention, these little dresses are serious business. It's not just about looking pretty; these tutus have helped countless dancers express themselves and reach their full potential. Every tutu tells a story, and today, I was ready to tell mine.

There were a few little nuggets of advice that stuck with me as the day unfolded, like little treasures I discovered during a trip to a museum.

  • "A tutu should never be too tight or too loose," my teacher used to say, "It needs to be comfortable so you can move freely and express yourself. Otherwise, what’s the point?” She’s a wise woman, that one.
  • Remember to layer up for your warm-ups. Those tutus might look magical, but they offer about as much warmth as a mosquito's hug. We might have it good with a balmy Australian winter but those AC units can crank down those degrees!
  • "And, most importantly,” she added with a twinkle in her eye, “you gotta wear it with confidence! That’s the key to truly embodying the character you’re portraying!”

I knew this was my chance to really unleash the drama. For the day, I chose to wear my black and gold dramatic pointe tutu. With a touch of eyeliner, some dramatic hair (in a ballerina bun of course, with my usual half-up half-down because the length doesn’t really cooperate with the bun yet) and a deep crimson lipstick, I felt ready to take the world by storm (or at least my corner of the studio). You've got to work with what you’ve got right!

The day at Blaxland Dance Academy was full of laughter, friendships forged through shared love of the art form, and most importantly, the thrill of wearing a tutu! The entire studio felt transformed into a mini theatre with every flick and flair, with even the air itself becoming the set for our performance. We all twirled and leaped to our hearts' content.

One of the best parts was seeing the sheer joy and wonder on the faces of the young students, their eyes shining with delight as they spun, jumped, and took their very first ballet steps in those little fluffy dreams. Seeing them so enthusiastic really brought me back to my own childhood dance days, that infectious love for twirling and expression and that magical spark that set my own journey ablaze! This was truly the stuff dreams were made of.

So there you have it – Tutu Tuesday in Blaxland, New South Wales was an absolute blast! And remember, everyone, whether you’re a professional dancer, a budding artist, or simply a tutu enthusiast at heart, every day is a good day to channel your inner ballerina and embrace the magic of dance. Because really, there’s no feeling quite like slipping into that perfect tutu and feeling like you can conquer the world, one twirl at a time.

Be sure to join the fun on #Tutuesday every Tuesday! It’s more than just an outfit choice. It’s a chance to celebrate creativity, celebrate expression and to share that feeling with the world!

Until next time, keep on twirling,

Amelia xo
