Tutu Tuesday in Ningi, Queensland: A Whirlwind of Colour and Sass

G'day, darlings! It's your fave ballerina, Ellie, back with another fab instalment of my weekly #Tututuesday blog. This week, we're taking a trip out of the big smoke to Ningi, Queensland, where the tutus are definitely not what you'd expect, but totally rockin' in their own right.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Ellie, tutus in Ningi? What's that all about?" Well, let me tell ya, darling, it's more about embracing the tutus and turning them into a statement piece. Think less "professional ballerina" and more "fierce queen ready to sashay into the sunset". And believe me, Ningi is serving up a heaping plate of sass in this week's tutu twist!

I arrived in Ningi bright and early on Tuesday morning, armed with my trusty camera and my trusty attitude. (Let's be honest, it's the best attitude, duh.) First stop was the local cafe, which was overflowing with colour and charm. A lady wearing a **tutu in a bold floral print** was just settling in for her morning coffee. Now, this was no ordinary tutus. We're talking a maxi-tutu in the best way, reaching to the floor and dripping in vibrant blooms, and it paired beautifully with a comfy t-shirt and sandals. You could see the owner, a bloke with a bushy moustache, give her a wink as she sashayed in. Totally gave me the vibe of a "I'm not afraid to be fabulous, even in the outback" attitude.

Next up, I headed down to the Ningi Community Centre. Now, it's not exactly the Royal Opera House, but you know what? The atmosphere was buzzing, the air was thick with excitement and there was a serious vibe in the air. It turns out, the locals were hosting their very own tutu parade. I'm talking kids decked out in tutus with little fluffy tails, grannies strutting in classic **ballet-style tutus**, and everyone in between just embracing the fun of it all. This wasn't just a parade, it was a celebration of self-expression. You know what, it actually kinda warmed my heart. It wasn't about perfection, it was about throwing on a tutu and embracing the joy of dance.

But the real showstopper? Oh, the real showstopper came from a local farmer, a fella called Wally. I swear, Wally looked like he'd walked straight out of a Wes Anderson film, except with a tutu on. This fella had on a **tutu in the boldest red check** you ever did see. I'm talking a serious splash of colour, and I swear he paired it with a cowboy hat and a pair of dusty old boots. It was so wrong, but so right! You could see that Wally was just loving the life in that tutu, and that's what I loved most.

We’re talking a **modern, romantic tutu** or a **whimsical tiered tutu**, maybe even a **tutu with some feathered embellishment**, anything goes. That's what made Ningi so special; they really embraced that anything-goes spirit, embracing creativity in every shade of tulle.

Overall, Ningi was a real revelation when it came to Tutu Tuesday. It taught me that tutus don't need a grand stage to shine. They can flourish in the heart of a rural town, a coffee shop, a local parade, or even a farmer's field, with a little bit of creativity and an open mind. So, my darlings, remember that tutus are just one expression of that inner sass. Be bold, be proud, be you, no matter where you are. After all, who needs the Sydney Opera House when you’ve got a tutu and Ningi? And hey, you might just find your next favourite tutu style in a surprising place.

Until next Tuesday, my sweet darlings!

Some things to consider for tutu inspiration:

  • Embrace different colours: We often think of tutus in white or pale pink, but get wild and embrace bright hues like crimson, emerald, sapphire, or even rainbow hues.
  • Embrace different textures: A tutu is more than just fabric - think about using sequins, lace, tulle in different weights, feather boas. Play with texture to make your look more dynamic.
  • Play with layers: You can use layering to create new and different tutu shapes or even play with colour by combining several tutus on top of each other.
  • Think beyond ballet: Ballet tutus are beautiful, but let your imagination go wild! Create your own style - a modern, urban look or something completely unique!
