Tutu Tuesday in Benalla, Victoria: A Tutu-tiful Day for Dance and Fashion

G’day dance lovers! It’s your girl, Ellie, here, reporting live from Benalla, Victoria, where we just experienced a glorious #TutuTuesday. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and everyone was rocking their best tutu – it was pure magic! Now, let’s be honest, this wasn’t just a casual Tuesday in Benalla. No, this was a day dedicated to the elegant, the graceful, and, of course, the oh-so-fabulous tutu. As a ballet dancer with a passion for fashion, my heart practically burst with joy. Let’s take a look at some highlights from this totally fab day.

Tutus for Everyone!

This day, Benalla embraced its inner ballerina. I saw everything from classic romantic tutus, a bit poofy, that’s so lovely with their layers of tulle, to chic, modern tutus – we’re talking minimalist and architectural. I loved seeing a few people rockin’ the tutus with interesting textures, like tulle that had this gorgeous sparkle, a bit like diamonds, and the ones with colourful ribbons and trim - such personality! Then there were the tutus of bold colour. Bright orange, fuchsia, teal – you name it, it was on display in Benalla! There wasn’t a single person without a tutu – they were just so proud and happy to show off their amazing looks, whether it was their own design or one of their favourite pieces they already owned.

Benalla’s Tutu-tiful Culture

It wasn’t just the tutus that were amazing - there was this amazing atmosphere too! Everyone was so positive and excited. From mums and kids having a picnic in the park all dressed up to high-school students rocking tutus with their mates, and even a few grandmas showing off their classic ballet style - this truly was a celebration of community and how much love we have for ballet. There were tutus everywhere, a bit of a Tutu invasion, a lovely vibe. I think it's a sign of just how much ballet is alive and kicking in regional Victoria.

My Favourites

I had so many incredible tutu moments to choose from, it was hard to pick my top looks! Here’s a quick rundown of my favourite looks:

  • Best Vintage Look: I’ve got to shoutout to this amazing grandmother who had her tutu from when she was a young dancer. It was a classic design, soft pink tulle and this delicate hand-sewn floral pattern. Totally classic and timeless – and a piece of history!
  • Best Modern Tutu: I was so impressed by this lady who created her own custom-designed tutu with a mix of colours and layers. It was kind of art and performance rolled into one, super-stylish and definitely caught the eye.
  • Best Dressed Tutu-fied Kid: This young girl, I think she was six or seven, had the cutest little ballerina outfit. It had a pale blue tutu, this gorgeous white silk halter top and tiny sparkly ballet shoes. She literally looked like a princess. Adorable!

Spread the Love - #TutuTuesday

This is why #TutuTuesday is so important. It's a reminder that we all have the power to spread joy, be a bit silly and bring that amazing ballet feeling to everyday life. If we all got into our tutus just once a week, I bet we could get Australia into an actual tutu frenzy – imagine! But even if it's just your own little personal #TutuTuesday – put on that Tutu, be yourself, be happy and know that somewhere, in the world of fashion and ballet, there’s always a place for you!

Till next time, Ellie
