Tutu Tuesday in Renmark, South Australia - A Celebration of Ballet and Style
Hey lovelies! It’s your girl, Mia, back with another blog post. This time, I'm taking you on a whirlwind adventure of tulle and twirls – it’s Tutu Tuesday in Renmark, South Australia! This charming little town is the heart of South Australia's Riverland, and guess what? It's also a hotbed for ballet enthusiasts and fashionistas alike!
Okay, so I'll admit, I wasn't expecting Renmark to have such a vibrant ballet scene. But you know what they say – never judge a town by its size! So, how did Tutu Tuesday come about? Well, let's just say, a few amazing people decided to create a fun, quirky day for all things ballet and twirling. Imagine an afternoon filled with tutus of all styles - romantic, classic, contemporary, even those DIY tutus you make with your mates! I'm talking tutus that burst with colour, glitzy ones that shimmer, and those dreamy, flowy numbers that just beg for a pirouette!
It’s not just about tutus though! It’s a chance to unleash your inner ballerina!
The fun kicked off with a "Tutu-orial," a crash course in basic ballet steps for those wanting to give it a go. No, you don’t have to be a prima ballerina to join in - we were all beginners at some stage, right? Plus, everyone’s a bit awkward at the beginning but with the support of fellow tutu lovers – it’s so much fun! It was hilarious, actually! People from all ages, from little tots who’d never touched a barre to adults who were totally rocking their grand jetés (it's an impressive move, let me tell you). After a few "pliés" and "grand battements" we all knew, even with the odd stumble and giggle, this is how we do ballet!
The afternoon was all about ballet activities, with everything from "pointe" classes, where you can channel your inner swan, to a captivating dance performance by local talented ballerinas. Trust me, those grand allegro sequences are a sight to behold, you won’t regret seeing those talented performers on the stage, their moves graceful and fluid!
Of course, we have to talk about the food!
After the performance, we gathered in the Town Square for the real showstopper: the "Tutu-licious" picnic. Think delicate sandwiches, homemade fairy bread and cupcakes decorated with fondant ballet shoes (such attention to detail, amazing!). Even the chai lattes and freshly squeezed orange juice felt like a ballet scene with the perfect presentation!
You might think Tutu Tuesday is just a bit of fun, but there’s actually a really sweet side to this day – a significant portion of the proceeds from the "Tutu-licious" picnic go to the Renmark Performing Arts Centre, a beautiful little centre that aims to nurture artistic expression in the Riverland. So you’re helping out budding artists and supporting the local performing arts scene - #winning!
So, how did my outfit measure up?
Let’s just say my tutu was the perfect shade of millennial pink with some sparkly tulle and it swished perfectly when I twirled! You betcha, it was an eye-catching outfit – just enough glitter and pink, so not too much, but you knew I was here! It’s not everyday you have a Tutu Tuesday to go all out, you know?
If you happen to be in Renmark around the first Tuesday of each month, be sure to check out this delightful event!
And don’t forget to share your tutu moments on Instagram with #TutuTuesday! I can’t wait to see how other ladies embrace their inner ballerina and their creativity. If you’re in a larger city, try to make it your own and get together for a Tutu Tuesday, why not?
So until next time, happy twirling and stay stylish!
Lots of love,
Mia, xx
