Tutu Tuesday in Tully, Queensland: A Dance in the Sunshine

Hey everyone! It’s your girl, Amelia here, coming to you live from the sunny tropics of Tully, Queensland. Now, as a ballerina, you know my heart beats a little faster when I see a tutu. So when I heard whispers about a new Tutu Tuesday movement, I knew I had to jump in (or should I say, leap!).

Let’s be honest, there's nothing like slipping into a perfectly fitted tutu and feeling like you could take on the world, right? For me, it’s about finding that perfect balance between elegance and strength. It’s a feeling of being powerful yet graceful, a little bit princess and a lot of warrior woman. And here in Tully, we’re taking that to a whole new level!

Tully is a pretty small town, so you’d be forgiven for thinking we’re all just about sugarcane and crocs. But get this – there's a hidden dance community thriving right here! I've been teaching a bit of ballet at the Tully Community Centre, and you know what? These folks have a serious love for dance. The passion here is real. It's beautiful to see, and you can bet that Tutu Tuesday has them all fired up!

We’re talking all sorts of tutus – the classic, full-bodied romantic tutus for the dancers who like to twirl, those sleek and sharp contemporary tutus for the modern moves, and even the sassy little tutus that say "look at me!" for our expressive dancers. And you know what’s even more awesome? This isn’t just for ballet. It’s for anyone who loves to move! From the ballroom dancers who love to glide in their soft tulle, to the hip-hop crews who want to express their street-style flare in tulle skirts – this Tuesday is for you. It’s all about having fun, embracing your unique style, and rocking those twirls.

Now, to give you some real-life inspiration, I snapped some shots of my favourite looks.

  • **The “I’m-ready-for-anything” look:** My go-to on Tutu Tuesdays – a classic black tutu, styled with a sleek black top and high-top sneakers. The tutu gives the perfect pop of classic femininity while the sneakers bring a touch of edgy rebellion. Trust me, you can pull off almost anything in this combination.
  • **The “tropical dream” look:** A bright coral tulle tutu layered over a flowy floral dress with my signature braid crowned with tropical flowers. Because what's Tully without a little tropical flair? This outfit was designed for beach walks, but trust me, it works wonders on stage too.
  • **The “denim-and-tutu” look:** Yes, you heard right, it's a thing! The classic blue jeans paired with a vibrant fuchsia tutu, layered over a plain white tee, topped off with a black leather jacket – edgy yet so chic. I mean, who says a tutu can't be casual? It can literally be anything you want it to be!
