Tutu Tuesday in Toogoom, Queensland

G’day, lovelies! It’s your favourite ballet-obsessed blogger back at it again with another Tutu Tuesday! This week, I decided to head north to Toogoom, a beautiful little seaside town in Queensland. I was excited to check out the local dance scene and see if the spirit of #tututuesday was alive and well down here. Let me tell you, it certainly was!

I arrived on a bright and breezy Tuesday morning, ready to explore the streets. My outfit was a classic combo - a vibrant pink tutu, just a touch longer than the average classical style, paired with a sleek, black leotard. The colours really popped against the blue sky and turquoise water.

First stop: the Toogoom Dance Academy. These guys are dedicated to bringing ballet to all ages, and they even have a fantastic adult class that’s packed with a diverse range of lovely ladies. One thing I noticed immediately: they really embrace tutus. No matter what the class level, there’s always a tutu or two swirling about the studio! It’s heartwarming to see the joy they get from twirling around in their own unique way.

As the morning progressed, I ventured down to the beach to soak up the sunshine. Let me tell you, it's amazing what a few minutes in a coastal setting does to a tutu! I got to wear the other one I brought along today- a really pretty one from a boutique shop, with layers of white chiffon that just danced in the breeze! I loved how it paired with my oversized, vintage straw hat - it gave me that relaxed, seaside vibe.

That’s when I stumbled across a little surprise! Right there in the sand, a bunch of locals were practicing some serious beach ballet! Turns out they have a regular "Tutu Tuesdays on the Beach" gathering. It was so much fun to watch, and these guys were incredibly talented! Seeing that group, all ages and body types, just embracing the joy of dance... that’s the true spirit of #tututuesday.

Before leaving Toogoom, I decided to head into the local bakery for a coffee and a slice of something sweet. Turns out, they had the cutest tutu-themed cake I’ve ever seen! Talk about a #tututuesday treat! It was filled with lemon curd and raspberry buttercream—perfect fuel for another day of ballet exploring.

This whole trip really reminded me that ballet isn’t just about the stage. It’s about the feeling of joy that comes from expressing yourself through movement, whether you’re in a formal studio, on the beach, or just enjoying a piece of cake. And that’s something that every town, city, and seaside spot in Australia has in common. My Tutu Tuesday Takeaway
