Fitzroy Crossing, Western Australia: Tutu Tuesday Takes on the Outback

Hey lovelies! Your girl, Elara, is back with another sartorial adventure. This week, I decided to take my passion for tutus on the road – literally – and head out to the rugged heart of Western Australia: Fitzroy Crossing. Now, you might be thinking, “Tutues and the outback? What's the connection?”

Well, let me tell you, there's something incredibly empowering about embracing your femininity in the most unexpected of places. And there's nothing more feminine (and fierce!) than a tutu. So, with my trusty tulle and my love for exploring the uncharted, I embarked on a Tutu Tuesday adventure.

As I rolled into Fitzroy Crossing, the red dust swirling around my wheels, I already knew this was going to be different. We’re talking endless plains of Spinifex, ancient rock formations, and the breathtaking beauty of the Fitzroy River – an absolute far cry from the cobbled laneways of my usual ballet haunts. But that’s the beauty of dance, isn’t it? It allows us to create magic wherever we are.

My first stop was the Fitzroy Crossing Community Centre, where I surprised a group of kids with a impromptu ballet class. We went through some classic barre work, had a laugh while perfecting our arabesques (or attempting to, at least!), and even learned a little bit about Indigenous culture and traditions through dance. You should’ve seen their eyes light up! This connection to our heritage and tradition through ballet, that’s what keeps me going. Especially in these crazy times, it’s a source of connection that always grounds me.

Now, let’s talk about my outfit. It wouldn’t be Tutu Tuesday without a little sparkle, right? So I went for a romantic yet rugged look. My choice of tutu? The “Boho Belle.” It's a multi-layered dream, with cascading ruffles of tulle in muted hues of ochre and burnt orange that blended perfectly with the earthy tones of the landscape. You can never go wrong with multi-layered tulle for a timeless feminine feel. It flowed gracefully as I twirled and danced, showcasing the free spirit of Fitzroy Crossing. Underneath, I wore a classic black leotard and nude tights for that timeless dancer aesthetic, with my trusty cowboy boots. Now, you may not think it’s conventional dancewear, but for the outback, they worked perfectly!

My second adventure was a visit to the magnificent Geikie Gorge National Park. Can you imagine twirling amidst these towering sandstone cliffs? I felt like I was transported to another world, with the colours and shapes making a captivating backdrop to my dancing. For this adventure, I opted for a new style that I just knew would look phenomenal. The "Desert Dream" – a classic short tutu with geometric lines, and shimmering gold embellishments to give it a touch of desert chic.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Aussie adventure without a visit to the Fitzroy Crossing markets. Imagine: hand-crafted wares, live music, and a real sense of community. I brought along my portable record player and we all had a bit of a spontaneous ballet jam. Trust me, nothing says "Fitzroy Crossing Tutu Tuesday" like twirling around in a sunshine yellow tulle skirt to a didgeridoo rhythm. It was the perfect way to bring the local culture and my passion for dance together. For this part of my adventure, I rocked the "Rainbow Revelation," a playful tutu with bright swathes of tulle representing every colour under the sun – the perfect outfit to spread some cheer and energy.

Let's be honest, this wasn't just a photo op for Instagram. It was about embracing the joy of movement, exploring different parts of Australia, and sharing a love of dance with people from all walks of life.

Tutu Tuesday isn't just about rocking a fabulous skirt – it’s about finding the magic within, expressing yourself, and leaving a bit of sparkle wherever you go. I can’t wait for the next #tututuesday adventure!

So, here's to all of you dancing your way through life! Let your inner tutu shine!

Love,

Elara
