Wilton, NSW: Tutu Tuesday - A Celebration of the Whimsical

G’day, lovelies! It's your girl, Amelia, back again with another blog post! Today, I’m celebrating a day near and dear to my heart – **Tutu Tuesday**! This isn't just about tutus, darlings, it’s a chance to celebrate our unique Australian fashion and our love of everything a bit cheeky and flamboyant. From classic to contemporary, we’re going to take a twirl through the styles, remembering the Aussie icons who rock those fluffy wonders like no one else.

You know how much I love my ballet. There's something magical about a well-made tutu. It's a timeless piece of costume, not just for the stage but for the heart of a true Aussie fashionista. There are plenty of tutu styles out there to play with. From the classic, full-bodied romantic tutu with layers of tulle that give the impression of floating to the short and flirty tutu that perfectly frames your legs in the most whimsical way - the options are endless. We can go even further than that with layered skirts and colourful skirts. The fun of a Tutu is that it can be completely transformed to express the mood you’re going for. I have to say the most stunning look in a tutu for me is that simple, classical, romantic tutu with just the right amount of detail to look utterly breathtaking.

We can thank iconic Aussie ballet dancers like The Bolero’s Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and our very own Margot Fonteyn for keeping tutu culture so vibrant here in Australia. When you’re thinking about tutus it's so easy to get lost in the fairytale, princess vibe and forget that a tutu has history! Ballet's been in Australia for a very long time. And those dancers who really stood out did something truly unique with the tutu. They redefined the look for a modern Australian audience. It’s not just about ballet though, Tutu's have a place in Aussie fashion, it’s about expressing yourself, having fun with your look.

We're definitely going to have some fun with this! I know I love experimenting with my tutus! Some weeks it’s about classic elegant and sleek others I just want to express myself and have some fun - the more ruffles and frills the better. I just want to bring back a sense of whimsical fashion that can only come from rocking the tutu! I want us to look back on some of our favorite tutus - those we see at a ballet recital or a festival, maybe even something we whipped up ourselves! That’s the beauty of this fashion item it’s versatile, it's expressive. You can style it your own way. So today’s challenge: What tutu are you going to wear today? Here's how to get started.

It’s all about personalizing your Tutu

  • Think about what vibe you’re going for! You're the fashion designer. Think about your outfit today. Go all out, classic, minimalist? Maybe an all out fluffy tutu is what your going for. Don’t worry about going overboard - a tutu can handle just about any style.
  • Start simple and let your style evolve! A plain white tulle skirt? Why not start with a simple tutu, maybe something with some nice simple details, then go wild! Don’t be scared to break the rules! Maybe you add a bit of colour to a classic white. Maybe add some ruffles? This can be so much fun to play with. There are no limits!
  • Accessorize! How about a tutu top and matching jewelry or maybe an edgy handbag with sequins. There are so many fun accessories that go so well with the look.
  • Think about the length of the skirt - What kind of mood are you looking to create? Classic? Short? Whimsical? Your tutu can do it!
  • Get Creative with Colour and Texture - This is your moment. Be bold. Play with color and patterns. Play around with the kind of tulle.
