Tutu Tuesday in Huntly, Victoria: A Celebration of Twirling and Tiaras

Hey there, fellow dance enthusiasts and fashionistas! It's your girl, Chloe, back with another installment of my musings on all things tutus and twirling. This week, I'm taking you on a journey to the charming town of Huntly in Victoria, where Tutu Tuesday was truly a sight to behold!

For those of you who are new to this delightful trend, Tutu Tuesday is a global celebration of ballet, tutus, and the sheer joy of expressing ourselves through dance. Each Tuesday, ballet dancers and enthusiasts around the world wear tutus - whether it be the classic romantic, the whimsical pixie, or the powerful, dramatic. Think tutu styles like the romantic tulle, the dramatic frills of the “pas de deux,” the elegant pencil skirts that grace classical solos or the playful tutu worn by the fairies and flower sprites. In Australia, it’s not uncommon to see the iconic pink or white tutus. In some styles, you’ll find lace, glitter, silk or velvet too, depending on the dancer’s preferences. It’s all about embracing the spirit of ballet, no matter what your skill level!

Huntly, Victoria proved to be the perfect backdrop for a Tutu Tuesday celebration. As I walked down the charming main street, I spotted tutus of every colour, length and style - each one as unique as the dancer wearing it. It was amazing! The sun was shining and a gorgeous breeze swirled around the tutus as the girls waltzed and pirouetted, their twirling bringing smiles to every passerby. And speaking of twirling, we were spoilt for choice in terms of tutu styles, ranging from the traditional “pa-de-deux” for those with more formal taste, through to a delightful mix of playful pixie and contemporary pieces.

Here’s what made the Huntly Tutu Tuesday particularly special for me:

  • The Spirit of Community: Everyone, from young dancers to seasoned performers, embraced the opportunity to come together and share their love of ballet. It was incredibly inspiring to see such genuine joy and excitement on the faces of all involved. The whole town was buzzing!
  • A Celebration of Diversity: There was a huge range of ages, sizes and styles. It really reflected the diversity within the ballet community. The event reminded us that tutu love knows no boundaries – It's all about celebrating your passion, creativity, and expression through movement. Everyone had such beautiful confidence, it really touched me.
  • Fashionable Flourishes: The Huntly crowd put their own unique spin on their tutus, pairing them with beautiful accessories - think statement jewellery, flower crowns, elegant headbands, or sparkly shoes to bring a dash of personality. You just don't see that everyday.
  • Spreading the Ballet Love: Seeing kids wearing tutus and twirling for joy - well it's an infectious experience! It reminded me that Tutu Tuesday is a beautiful way to encourage children to engage in the arts. I love the idea that we could be inspiring a future generation of dancers and performers. The joy and delight of every twirl truly inspires you to give ballet a go. Even better? Ballet has grown incredibly in Australia recently and with a dedicated fanbase, Tutu Tuesday in Huntly proves this community will continue to flourish and grow.

If you’re thinking of putting on a tutu, let me tell you, the Huntly Tutu Tuesday is the ultimate inspiration. If you want to have a truly uplifting experience and connect with others, all while looking fabulous and channeling your inner ballerina, get your tutu out, practice those twirls, and join the fun!
