Tutu Tuesday in Rutherglen, Victoria: A Tutu-tiful Day Out
Hey dance lovers, it’s your girl, Olivia, back with another blog post, this time from the heart of the Murray Valley: Rutherglen, Victoria!
Today was Tutu Tuesday, and let me tell ya, the vibe was electric. If you're looking for a way to add some fun and whimsy to your Tuesday, a Tutu Tuesday gathering is just the ticket. Not only does it bring back childhood memories of dressing up and twirling in the most glamorous garment ever invented (yes, I’m talking about the Tutu!), but it also reminds you to never take yourself too seriously.
We were spoilt for choice when it came to Tutu styles. From the classic, full-length romantic tutus in white and pale pink, perfect for ballet performances, to the playful and short-and-sweet, poofy tutus in vibrant colours. They were everywhere! Little girls twirling with their mums, high school students rocking their tutus with their friends, and even a few brave guys sporting tutus. The sight was just heartwarming!
The entire day was about community and having a good laugh. The best part about Tutu Tuesday? It's an incredibly inclusive event. It's all about embracing your inner child, expressing yourself, and having a good time, regardless of your age, dance experience, or whether you know the difference between a pas de bourrée and a grand jeté.
But don’t let the fun and laughter fool you – Rutherglen also has a thriving ballet scene. Ballet schools and studios are scattered throughout the region, providing high-quality training for students of all levels. Seeing these young ballerinas embracing Tutu Tuesday filled me with pride. It’s such a strong symbol of the vibrant and supportive ballet community here in Australia.
The highlight of my day, besides the stunning tutus? Seeing the joy and laughter on everyone’s faces. There were plenty of twirls, even a few grand jetés (I’ll be honest, mine weren’t perfect, but hey, that’s what makes it fun!). Seeing everyone united in their love for tutus was absolutely heart-warming. It truly exemplified what Tutu Tuesday is all about: spreading joy, celebrating dance, and having a good time with your community.
