Today, I'm taking you on a journey to the charming town of Bagdad, Tasmania – not the one in Iraq, of course – for a day dedicated to all things tutu. I've gotta say, when I think of "tutu Tuesday", I envision a whimsical fairytale, but Tasmania, with its dramatic scenery and misty landscapes, evokes a bit of gothic elegance too! And Bagdad, well, it’s got a bit of a different vibe from the capital Hobart. We're talking rolling green hills, charming cottages, and a sense of community that makes you want to stay and sip on some warm apple cider while listening to the wind rustling through the gum trees. What's Tutu Tuesday All About? So, Tutu Tuesday is a thing, right? I mean, every Tuesday deserves to be a Tutu Tuesday in my book! But it's not just about throwing on any old tutu and strutting your stuff. It's about embracing your inner ballerina and celebrating the magic of dance. In Bagdad, the local arts center, The Bagdad Arts Collective, decided to host a weekly "Tutu Tuesday". They want to spark joy, inspire creativity, and bring the community together in a way that celebrates everything about ballet - from the costumes to the choreography and of course the dedication! What Kind of Tutu's Are We Talking About? I was so excited to check out the tutus on display! It was a fantastic collection: * There was a romantic, flowing **tulle tutu** in a soft, pastel pink. * I was absolutely in love with the classic **Romantic tutu** in a black, which was all about drama, volume and drama. * A daring **short tutu** with layers of feathery tulle just added a bit of extra excitement to the whole ensemble! * You could even find some **contemporary tutu** with its softer, more contemporary fabric and more casual shapes! The **Romantic Tutu**, the **Short Tutu** and the **Classical Tutu** were definitely stand outs, evoking the grace and beauty of ballerinas, The **contemporary tutu**, the shorter more casual designs definitely suited the kind of dancing you see on stage these days! Ballet and Australia: A Love Story For Aussies like myself, ballet is an integral part of our cultural tapestry, just as it is all around the world! And Ballet Australia is a big deal. You have the iconic Sydney Dance Company. Plus the Adelaide Festival Centre and other iconic stages across the nation, with their own stunning performances, are constantly adding their own flavours and stories to the rich tapestry of Australian ballet. In a nation like ours, where there is such a diverse population, it’s a powerful statement about our identity as Australians that ballet is thriving. A Dance Through Time You guys, Tutu Tuesday in Bagdad was a whirlwind! I was literally surrounded by ballerinas, from young ones with huge grins, to some veteran performers in their twilight years, and everything in between! The joy of dancing is truly universal and it definitely has a timelessness! The atmosphere was simply electric. A perfect mix of excitement and poise as the music of Tchaikovsky filled the air, bringing every one to their toes as if we were dancing en pointe! But the Best Part About Tutu Tuesday? For me, it’s more about connecting with a diverse range of passionate souls, embracing the artistic side of life and being completely present! Every Tutu Tuesday in Bagdad felt special because of the community it builds, the positive energy it sparks. The laughter, the warmth, the conversations, it's all a celebration of beauty and grace. Tutu Tuesday in Bagdad, with all its heart and its quirks, proved to me that you don't have to be a seasoned dancer to revel in the magic of ballet.
