Tutu Tuesday in West Lincoln, Ontario: A Whirlwind of Tutu Styles

Hey everyone, it's your friendly neighbourhood ballerina and fashion blogger, back with another post about my absolute favourite day of the week: Tutu Tuesday! As a Canadian dancer who lives and breathes the world of ballet, there's no better way to celebrate my love for this art form than with a day dedicated to tutus.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. "Tutùs? Aren't they a bit outdated?" Absolutely not! In fact, tutùs have gone through a complete reinvention in the past few years. From the traditional Romantic tutù with its delicate layers of tulle, to the modernistic contemporary tutùs with their sculptural lines and bold colours, there's a tutù out there for every taste. Plus, let's be real – nothing makes you feel like a princess than a twirling tutù!

Today's Tutu Tuesday celebration was extra special, as it was hosted by the West Lincoln Dance Academy. It's amazing to see how passionate they are about keeping ballet alive and accessible in smaller towns. With the Canadian dance scene experiencing a major resurgence, these types of initiatives are invaluable.

The event was packed with fun, interactive activities. We had a chance to learn some basic ballet steps (I even attempted a fouetté, with varying levels of success, haha!). The kids got to dress up in adorable tutus, and there was even a tutù-making workshop. And let me tell you, there were some real masterpieces being crafted. I’m sure those tiny ballerina-in-the-making will be rocking the stage in no time!

Now, the most important part – the tutus! There were so many fabulous examples of tutùs that I was absolutely spoiled for choice. Here are some of my favourites:

  • A gorgeous Romantic tutù in a pale lavender tulle, absolutely shimmering under the studio lights. So delicate and dreamy – definitely my go-to for a classical performance.
  • A bold and contemporary tutù crafted with layers of textured fabric. The colour was a deep burgundy with intricate details, showcasing a sophisticated look for modern pieces.
  • An incredibly intricate tutu with an explosion of colour. It was layered with brightly colored, flowy tulle strips – like a burst of rainbow – and had an edgy, playful feel. It’s certainly not your standard tutù but was the perfect way to make a statement!
  • For the little dancers, the tutus were all about cuteness! With fluffy tulle, colourful sequins, and sparkling accents, those little tutus stole the show.

The day wouldn't have been complete without a little Instagram photo shoot. It was a blast snapping pics with all the other tutù-lovers. #TutùTuesday has been trending for a while now and it’s not hard to see why – it’s the perfect way to embrace your inner dancer and share your love of the art form.

And the best part about tutus is their versatility. You can rock them for a ballet class, a recital, a night out with friends, or even just for fun around your house. Just embrace the spirit of Tutu Tuesday – let your imagination run wild and have fun with it! And of course, be sure to tag your posts with #TutùTuesday!

That's all for this Tutu Tuesday roundup! I'm so grateful to be part of such a vibrant and inspiring community. As for me, I'm heading back to the studio for some serious tutù-spinning! 🩰
