Tutu Tuesday in Carberry, Manitoba: A Celebration of Dance and Fashion #tututuesday Hey fellow dance enthusiasts and fashionistas! It’s your girl, Anya here, bringing you all the latest from the world of dance and style! Today’s all about Tutu Tuesday, a tradition that has been sweeping across Canada, and honestly, who could resist? It's the perfect chance to embrace your inner ballerina, whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out on your pointe shoes. And what better place to celebrate Tutu Tuesday than in my hometown of Carberry, Manitoba? For this week’s #tututuesday post, I’m sharing a little bit of what I know about the graceful and inspiring art of dance and fashion, and specifically ballet, in Canada, which has a rich history of celebrating dance, with the recent addition of the Ballet National de Cuba to the celebrated Toronto Dance Theatre and several dance companies across the country offering both classical and modern dance experiences to Canadian audiences. I wanted to also incorporate some thoughts about this particular day because honestly, I’m so into it. Here in Canada, Tutu Tuesday is a chance for people across the country to get creative with tutus. We’ve seen all sorts of fabulous designs! From classic, billowing tulle styles to modern, fitted ones and everything in between, people are celebrating Tutu Tuesday with sparkle and fun. I wanted to share a little of what I know about tutu styles to celebrate our Canadian tradition and fashion and art: * **Romantic tutus** – you know, those ones that you see in a lot of the classic ballets, like "Swan Lake" or "Giselle." The Romantic tutus feature multiple layers of tulle, they’re very full and dreamy, and they’re kind of reminiscent of the style of dancing back in the 19th century. * **Classical tutus** – we can see those a lot in ballets like "Sleeping Beauty" or "The Nutcracker.” Classical tutus have shorter skirts with more tiers of tulle and a pointed shape, making for those gorgeous swirling shapes when the ballerinas do those jumps and leaps! * **Modern tutus** – you see this more in modern or contemporary dance. You can kind of do your own thing with these! They’re less strict in style. Maybe it’s just a skirt of tulle, or maybe it’s made of different fabrics. Modern tutus often give the dancers a lot more flexibility because they're meant to show off more movement than form. The modern tutu often brings a whole new element to the dancer’s performance. Here in Manitoba, it’s always a joy to see folks embracing their inner artist. I especially loved seeing a young girl dancing with her grandma in her Tutu - so cute! A perfect moment, truly capturing the spirit of this celebration, which, really, is all about self-expression and joy, just like the world of dance! I’m excited to see all the tutus this year! Don't forget to post photos and videos using #tututuesday on your favorite social media platforms. I will! I’m posting every step and twirl I take in this amazing skirt on all of my social media platforms in my signature tutu which my family affectionately calls my "sugar plum tutu.” Keep on dancing! It’s such an amazing outlet. It’s a wonderful way to feel confident, strong, graceful, and just generally happy! It’s not just for dancers! Anyone can feel like they’re in a story dancing on a stage, and I can't recommend it enough.
