Tutu Tuesday in Saint-Leon-de-Standon, Quebec: A Day of Whirlwind Twirls and Chic Fashion

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Claire, here from the Canadian ballet scene, bringing you a glimpse into a very special Tuesday - Tutu Tuesday! Now, you might be thinking, "What exactly is Tutu Tuesday?" Well, let me tell you, it's not just about donning a tutu and prancing around. It's a whole celebration of ballet, fashion, and a touch of playful Canadian spirit.

For this week's Tutu Tuesday adventure, I found myself in the charming little town of Saint-Leon-de-Standon, Quebec. Now, if you're picturing a bustling metropolis, think again. This town is all about quiet charm and serene landscapes. It's a place where time seems to move at a slower pace, and I felt a real connection to the beauty of nature while sporting my tutu.

I must confess, picking out my Tutu Tuesday outfit was no easy feat. It's a good thing I have my own little style guide for these events! After all, when it comes to tutus, we have options galore:

  • Romantic Romantic: There's the classic romantic tutu, with its flowing layers of tulle. This one is always a safe bet, giving off a vibe of classic ballet elegance, like stepping out of a timeless ballet production. Perfect for a peaceful stroll through the Saint-Leon-de-Standon countryside.
  • Modern Minimalist: Or perhaps you're after a sleek and contemporary look. Opt for a minimalist tutu – think a single layer of crisp, clean-lined fabric. These ones are more suited to a ballet class setting or even a stylish urban backdrop. Saint-Leon-de-Standon might have the small town vibe, but that doesn't mean we can't have a bit of fashion fun!
  • Statement Making: Then there are the statement-making tutus – the ones with dramatic volumes, quirky designs, and a bit of colour. A little extra flair never hurts. They scream "I'm not afraid to stand out" - something we Canadians aren't afraid of! And let's be honest, there's just something about a good tulle explosion that makes me feel like a prima ballerina!

Of course, I went with something that resonated with my inner "diva in training". A whimsical, slightly retro tutu that seemed perfectly suited for the cobbled streets and antique shops that make Saint-Leon-de-Standon so unique.

The heart of Tutu Tuesday is all about community and sharing the love for ballet with others. That’s exactly what I set out to do! My day started at the quaint little boulangerie on the main square. I surprised the locals (and they surprised me) with some enthusiastic grand jetés and arabesques by the counter. The bakers were thrilled, I’m pretty sure a whole baguette was sacrificed for my pirouettes.

And speaking of local culture, I can’t rave enough about the artisans in Saint-Leon-de-Standon! The local artist, Sylvie, had her work on display in a gallery, and I found myself completely charmed by her watercolour interpretations of dance scenes - perfect captures of the grace and strength of a ballerina.

And let's not forget about the delicious food! There's a genuine "Quebec flavour" here in Saint-Leon-de-Standon. The kind that's full of warmth, local charm, and fresh ingredients. You just have to take a bite of that homemade maple syrup and you know you're in a truly special place. That’s why my Tutu Tuesday lunch consisted of poutine. Now, don’t judge. We're talking fresh, creamy cheese curds with fluffy fries and gravy, drizzled with maple syrup. It was my way of bringing my ballet training together with the heart of Saint-Leon-de-Standon cuisine. (But don't worry, I still ate a small salad - Gotta stay in dancer shape!).

For me, Tutu Tuesday isn’t about strict adherence to a rigid routine. It’s more about allowing ballet to infuse the day with a dose of playful, creative energy. And in a town like Saint-Leon-de-Standon, a bit of "outside-the-box" thinking just adds to the whole experience.

Tutu Tuesdays are my little way of reminding myself to tap into my inner child - that feeling of carefree joy and a love for the artistry of movement.
