Tutu Tuesday in Cocagne, New Brunswick: A Tutu for Every Occasion! #tututuesday
Hey everyone! It’s your girl, Claire, back with another blog post about my favourite topic – TUTUS! You know me, I’m a dancer at heart and, as you can probably tell, I’m a huge fan of anything twirly, frilly, and oh-so-elegant. Today’s topic? It's Tutu Tuesday, so we're exploring the world of tutus, specifically here in Cocagne, New Brunswick!
So, what is it about tutus that makes them so special? Well, let's start with the basics. For those of you who don’t know, a tutu is a skirt that’s typically worn by dancers. The classic, or what’s sometimes called the "traditional" tutu, has layers and layers of tulle (think airy, dreamy netting), and it's short, revealing the dancer's legs. This style makes it perfect for spins and leaps! They can range from being super pouffy, with dozens of layers of tulle for a massive look (you know the one, think Sleeping Beauty!) to less elaborate designs. In the world of dance, the tutu isn’t just about the dance; it represents dedication, artistry, and years of dedication to perfecting a craft! But that’s a blog post for another day!
Now, let's talk about the different kinds of tutus you can find here in Canada. Did you know there are actually quite a few? Let's take a peek at some of the most common, and let’s even have some fun trying to guess which might be your favourite!
First, there's the **classic Romantic tutu**. Think graceful lines and just a few layers of tulle. They float around the dancer, allowing for more fluidity and delicate movements. Think Swan Lake or Giselle. If we’re talking fashion, I’d pair this tutu with a billowing silk blouse for a light and feminine vibe! It’s an outfit that makes me feel confident and classy, but ready to have a good time!
Then we've got the **"layered" or "pancake" tutu**. This tutu is perfect for someone who loves a lot of volume. We're talking several layers of tulle, sometimes more than a dozen, creating a very wide and airy look. I love this style for contemporary dance, when you’re using larger, powerful movements. For everyday wear, imagine this style in bright colors or even in sparkly, glitter fabrics! I’d style it with a simple top and platform boots for a street-style look!
For the real fashionista, you might love a **"boulevard tutu"**. The boulevard tutu is essentially a mini skirt. It has a short, sleek look, and often it's not even made of tulle! These are much more simple and make an incredible everyday outfit for the bold and confident! Pair one of these with a black blazer or leather jacket and you’ll have a statement-making, edgy look, with a nod to the classic.
No matter your personal style, there's a tutu out there for everyone. There are all kinds of tutus! There are tutus made with different types of tulle – for a smooth, silky look, or ones that are stiffer. Tutues come in all colours and lengths, and can be decorated with all kinds of fancy things! We can even find tutus with different embellishments. This year, they’re in for sequins! Oh, I'm so ready for all the sparkly and shiny styles I can find on my Tutu Tuesday hunt.
