Tutu Tuesday in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada: #tututuesday

Hey dance fam! It's your girl, Isabelle here, bringing you all the latest on the Canadian dance scene from my little corner of the world - St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador! Today's post is dedicated to all things TUTU, and who better to talk tutus than a dancer, right?! This week's #tututuesday I'm venturing beyond the typical pointe shoes and taking a whimsical journey through the world of tutus. It's no secret that we Canadian dancers have a penchant for all things fluffy and fabulous. What's not to love?! There’s something incredibly empowering about wearing a tulle dream - even if it's just a trip to the grocery store, am I right?

For the uninitiated, a tutu is essentially a skirt worn by ballet dancers, often made of multiple layers of tulle and net, which can be arranged in various styles, like the Romantic tutu - soft and flowy - and the "Classical" tutu - think shorter, more structured and a stiffer, rounder silhouette. And then there's the "Romantic tutu", my personal fave, with its super airy, layered tulle, often featuring more than 20 layers to give that stunning dreamy, layered effect that's just SO romantic. My Tutu Travels

This week, we're exploring tutu trends in St. Lawrence! Now, I wouldn't say we’re exactly a tutu hot spot. But trust me when I say, it's those off-the-beaten-path gems that truly elevate #tututuesday! This little town is surprisingly filled with hidden treasures – like vintage boutiques with tulle ready for a second life!

I even spotted some local moms using old tutus in unique ways. Imagine – an old romantic tutu repurposed as an extra layer of fluff under a warm winter coat for those extra cold days - brilliant right?! My Tutu-ly Inspired DIY Tip!

If you want to get creative with your tutus, you can always DIY it! It's easier than you think! You don’t even need to be a professional seamstress! Just get a bunch of tulle in the color and type you prefer and you are good to go! Simply layer it over a skirt of your choosing. Why We Love Tutus

Why do we love tutus so much? It’s more than just a dress-up garment, it’s a feeling! They give us wings! Tututus let us express ourselves without holding back! And, I mean, just look at that tulle! They move and shimmer like a dance of light! The combination of fabric and design simply evokes a feeling of magic and joy. A sense of “let’s just have some fun” kind of mood!

It’s no coincidence that some people find tutus magical - we associate them with iconic dance performances like Swan Lake or The Nutcracker. They just add a dash of fairytale enchantment to whatever we are doing! Who doesn’t want a sprinkle of fairy tale magic in their lives, right?! From the Runway to the Stage

In the world of ballet, tutus can represent different characters, and convey specific emotions depending on the ballet. There’s this amazing versatility to the tutu which just gives the performance even more impact! Imagine – a powerful dance number featuring a contrasting combination of dark, sensual romantic tutus and white flowing Classical tutus, conveying contrasting characters on stage! That's what makes ballet so beautiful!

We’ve even seen this fairytale charm spilling over into fashion - tutu-inspired skirts and even tutu-shaped headwear have made their way down fashion runways. Talk about a winning combination! The End?

As our Tutu Tuesday journey winds down, I have to admit - I love finding ways to keep the magical feeling of tutus alive. It’s part of what makes my passion for dance so intense. For me, #tututuesday is about celebrating those magical memories associated with tutus and the amazing art form of ballet.

To all my fellow dancers in St. Lawrence and beyond, may your tutus bring you joy and make you feel confident and magical!
