Tutu Tuesday in Grand View, Manitoba: A Canadian Ballerina's Take #tututuesday
Hey, fellow fashionistas and tutu enthusiasts! It's your girl, Olivia, back with another exciting edition of "Tutu Tuesday". Today, we're taking a trip to the heartland of Canada, Grand View, Manitoba!
I'm here to tell you, folks, that the prairie province is home to a flourishing dance scene and more importantly, a strong and vibrant fashion sense!
Who knew that the prairies were a hidden gem of stylish ballerinas?!
Grand View is known for its wide-open spaces and quiet charm, and you can find that same sense of peace in the way local dancers carry themselves. There's a grounded elegance about them, like the strong roots of a tree reaching out towards the sky.
It's a sense of pride and dedication to their craft that resonates deeply with me as a dancer. There's nothing more exhilarating than a tutu twirling in the breeze, especially when you're doing it on a beautiful summer day. And let's be honest, a tutu can never look bad in the light of a setting sun!
Let's dive into some tutu styles that have caught my eye here in Grand View.
* **Classic Romantic Tutu**: You'll find lots of the classic Romantic tutu style, which is that dreamy, whimsical, full and fluffy tutu with a lot of layers of tulle. These styles were staples back in the Romantic Era, and for a reason. You can find all kinds of stunning examples in ballet performances.
* **The Traditional Romantic Tutu:** They emphasize softness and grace and come in a variety of pastel hues and are quite dramatic.
* **The "Balanchine" Tutu:** It has the perfect balance of simplicity and elegance, often in a striking single color like white, black, or nude.
I love how they use simple ballet accessories with this tutu style. It really highlights the elegance and sophistication. Think classic, delicate earrings and understated makeup. The dancers let the movement speak for itself.
But there's a bold spirit within them. A sense of adventure. It reminds me of a well-worn pair of dance shoes โ they have stories to tell. I felt it from the very first step onto the stage in Grand View.
You know I can't share my #TutuTuesday posts without a touch of humour. While the local ballet scene embraces tradition, some dancers also have an incredible knack for turning a simple costume into a work of art.
The modern dance scene is also starting to gain traction and it's a vibrant new generation with a different spin on ballet. They're incorporating playful fabrics, vibrant colours, and more "everyday" clothes into the dancewear scene, which makes the costumes feel fresh, energetic and relevant.
And you know me โ Iโm always down for a little playful rebellion.
Letโs just say, that after a day at the studio in Grand View, I'm excited to put together my next "Tutu Tuesday" outfit.
**Stay Tuned for the next #TutuTuesday**
