Tutu Tuesday in Surbiton: A Day of Twirling and Sparkle

Hello my fellow tutu enthusiasts! It's your girl, Ellie, back with another instalment of the ever-popular Tutu Tuesday! This week, we're taking things to the suburbs, heading down to the lovely Surbiton for a day of twirling, tea and...well, more twirling. It's been a long time coming but finally, Surbiton is getting a taste of the magic that is Tutu Tuesday. So, grab your trusty ballet shoes (or your comfiest flats - we’re all about inclusivity here!), because it's time to unleash your inner prima ballerina and celebrate everything about this most fabulous of dance garments.

Now, I know what you're thinking: Surbiton? A town known more for its supermarkets than its stage presence? But hear me out! We're not talking about a grand ballet performance here (though that would be absolutely fabulous!) but rather a fun and quirky way to bring some joy and colour to our Tuesday mornings. Tutu Tuesday is about finding the unexpected, and Surbiton, with its charming high street and quirky independent shops, seemed like the perfect location to spread a little tutu love.

And what better way to celebrate Tutu Tuesday than by showcasing some of the most fabulous tutu styles on offer? From the classic, romantic, full-length tutus reminiscent of Swan Lake, with their cascading layers of tulle, to the modern, asymmetrical styles perfect for a contemporary performance, we had a kaleidoscope of tulle on display. We even had a few intrepid individuals donning those gorgeous, bright-pink tutus straight out of a vintage Sugar Plum Fairy costume – just absolutely dreamy!

Of course, Tutu Tuesday wasn't all about tutus. We also had a chance to experience some of the best that Surbiton has to offer. We took a delightful stroll through the picturesque gardens, stopping for a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake at one of the charming tea shops (there’s nothing quite like a good cuppa to fuel your dance moves!). And we couldn’t resist popping into a few of the independent shops and browsing their charming wares.

The day concluded with a spontaneous impromptu performance in the town square. And while there wasn’t an orchestra playing Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet score, we danced to the cheerful, bouncy tunes played from a street performer's guitar – it was absolutely delightful!

But you know, it’s not about the performances or the pictures. It’s about the feeling – the shared joy, the sense of community, the smiles and laughter. This was a day where we left behind our everyday worries and celebrated all that is fabulous about life, one twirling, twirling, twirling, step at a time! We showed everyone that ballet, fashion, and fun are for everyone - whether you're a seasoned ballerina or simply someone who loves a good excuse to wear a tutu.

So, what have we learned from our Tutu Tuesday adventure? That even the most ordinary town can become a place of extraordinary magic, if you let it. And that a simple tutu can inspire laughter, creativity, and community – just what we need in this crazy world. We’re already thinking about where Tutu Tuesday will take us next, so stay tuned and keep sharing your Tutu Tuesday stories with the hashtag #tututuesday!
