Tutu Tuesday in Chorley: A Dance Through Fashion and Fun

It’s a sunny Tuesday morning, and the cobblestones of Chorley town centre are already buzzing. But there's something different about today. A whiff of tulle in the air. Yes, you guessed it - #TutuTuesday has hit Chorley! 🩰

As a dancer and blogger with a passion for both ballet and fashion, #TutuTuesday has been a dream come true. It's a movement that's sweeping the nation, encouraging everyone to embrace the twirl and wear a tutu with pride. And today, Chorley has really embraced the spirit of #TutuTuesday. From the cafes to the shops, there’s a real energy in the air – and it’s a tutu-licious energy at that!

Let me paint you a picture of Chorley's #TutuTuesday:

  • First off, the sight of children dashing around in bright pink tutus with a grin that could light up a stage was pure joy. A few had even gone the extra mile with sequined headbands, which was certainly adding to the sparkly atmosphere!
  • Speaking of sparkle, a couple of bold ladies even had their own, adult version of tutus going on – let’s call them ‘ballet inspired’ rather than strict tutus - They looked absolutely radiant in flowing silk skirts with some sequins scattered on. Absolutely gorgeous, these ladies are clearly owning #Tututuesday! They showed everyone that even after the school years, tutus are definitely not just for kids!
  • Not just the people were getting into the spirit; even the shop windows had joined in. From the sweet shop to the cafe, tulle and bows were appearing everywhere! I think I even saw a flower stall dressed up with a few streamers to celebrate – definitely adding some ballerina magic!

The real gem of the day was a small, independent dance studio. They'd transformed their space for #Tututuesday, making it all about the beauty of ballet. They were running a beginner’s class for adults, a free ‘Tutu & Twirl’ session – which was utterly adorable – and they even had a corner devoted to selling tutu-themed gifts. What better way to celebrate #Tututuesday?

As a seasoned ballet dancer, let me break down the tutu trends I saw.

  • The classics – The traditional ballet tutu with layers and layers of netting! They were the most popular amongst the younger girls, with a real mix of colours; it seems Chorley was full of adorable miniature ballerinas!
  • The "modern" take – Some teenagers and younger girls opted for what I'd call the 'modern tutu', which, unlike the traditional ones, has less volume. Instead of an exaggerated A-line shape, it was all about a simpler, elegant silhouette and a mix of silk or satin for a bit of flair.
  • A shoutout to the 'ballet-inspired' tutus, because we had a lot of lovely ones on show! Some ladies went with skirts in flowy tulle fabric. I'd call those 'inspired' rather than ‘ballet’, but honestly, on #Tututuesday, who are we to be strict?!

So, what's next for #Tututuesday in Chorley? It's exciting to imagine the next big event. Maybe they'll be some classes, or a 'Tutu & Tea' event for ladies, or even a fashion show! I'm just so happy that a town like Chorley has embraced #Tututuesday with open arms and a sprinkle of sparkle. Keep those tutus flowing, Chorley! And keep up the fabulous spirit of #tututuesday 💖
