Tutu Tuesday in Ilkeston: A Fashionable Ballet Dancer's Take #tututuesday
Let’s be honest, Ilkeston isn't exactly known for its fashion scene. It's more about fish and chips than fashion shows, more about market day than Milan Fashion Week. But on this Tuesday, something magical happened – Tutu Tuesday swept through the town! And it was utterly brilliant.
As a ballet dancer (and a serious fashionista in my spare time) I’m always looking for a way to inject some glam into my daily life. When I saw #tututuesday trending on Instagram, I knew I had to get involved. The idea? To rock a tutu, anywhere, any time, with any outfit. Easy, right? But with an unexpected twist: the day coincided with Ilkeston Market day. This was a chance to bring some tutu-licious sparkle to the heart of Ilkeston, a town that's never seen anything quite like it!
And let me tell you, the looks were absolutely fabulous! Here’s a glimpse into the styles that caught my eye:
- The Classic: There were plenty of traditional tutus – soft tulle, powder pink, a touch of shimmer – perfect for the ballerina in all of us. Seen paired with denim jackets, a simple black t-shirt, and even a crisp white shirt – all proving that the classic tutu can be as versatile as it is elegant.
- The Rock Chick: One brave soul even took the plunge with a black leather tutu! I’m not sure how she managed to wear it, but it looked effortlessly chic, especially with black platform boots and a black leather biker jacket. Talk about statement! Definitely my personal favorite!
- The Quirky: And then there were the creative ones: a Tutu in bright blue, complete with a matching beanie – perfect for channeling a whimsical fairytale. Another bold choice – a denim tutu paired with a denim shirt for a double denim moment with an edgy twist. It reminded me of a modern-day fairy!
What truly amazed me wasn’t the number of tutus but the genuine joy they brought to people’s faces. People were smiling, taking pictures, and getting into the spirit of #tututuesday! Some even wore their tutus to do their grocery shopping. What a fabulous sight to behold!
As the day went on, the chatter about Tutu Tuesday picked up on social media, even going viral on TikTok. The local newspaper ran a photo of the day, and I heard someone even mentioned it in the town council meeting (don’t know what they had to say though).
From a fashionista's point of view, this #tututuesday in Ilkeston showed me one important thing: you don't need to be in the big city to make a fashion statement. All it takes is a little bit of imagination and a willingness to have some fun.
This little town surprised me. They turned the tables, and who knows what Ilkeston will pull out next!
