Tutu Tuesday in Watford: A Day of Dance and Dazzling Style

Oh, Watford, you've truly stolen my heart! I've always been drawn to the energy of this town, but on Tuesday, it felt like the whole place was pulsating with an extra bit of magic. Why? You might ask. It was #TutuTuesday, of course! 🩰

As a ballerina, I live and breathe tutus, so I'm not just talking about some fancy dress party. I mean, real, proper tutus, of every variety, adorning everyone from little girls pirouetteing on the pavement to grown women with twinkle in their eyes. Talk about a joyful spectacle!

From the classic romantic tutu with its layers of tulle that resemble a billowing cloud, to the sleek and minimalist modern tutus that emphasize movement, and even some playfully funky tutus made from recycled materials – the streets of Watford were a catwalk for tutus, showcasing a diverse and beautiful ballet world.

Honestly, the whole vibe was infectiously fun. The local dance school had organised a free 'try a ballet class' event, and it was heartwarming to see people of all ages, from seasoned dancers to complete beginners, taking a whirl. The infectious energy of the class was contagious! It didn’t matter if your turnout was perfect or if your grand jeté wasn’t exactly professional, there was a universal spirit of playfulness and pure joy.

And let’s not forget the adorable children! Those little ballerina dreamers, with their bright, sparkling eyes, twirling in their perfectly fitted tutus – it was the cutest thing I'd ever seen. Every passer-by was smiling and there was an almost magical energy floating in the air.

Speaking of smiles, it wouldn’t be a true #TutuTuesday without mentioning the incredible costume designs I spotted throughout the day. Some people went for the classic romantic style, which was incredibly elegant and dramatic, while others opted for a modern twist on the traditional, playing with vibrant colors and unique embellishments.

One young woman, I think she was around my age, wore a gorgeous black tutu with silver embellishments that shimmered under the afternoon sun. It had a real urban, street style vibe to it. You could tell it was handcrafted with love and I instantly admired her ability to incorporate modern fashion with a classic ballet look.

The whole event had a community spirit to it, which is what truly made it special. Seeing everyone come together to celebrate their love for ballet, for fashion, and most importantly, for expressing themselves was truly heartwarming. I even caught myself a glimpse in a shop window, wearing a stunning lilac tutu that my mother had saved for a special occasion, and felt like a ballerina once again.

And then there was the amazing pop-up boutique in the town square that had tutus on sale, along with dancewear and accessories. The queue outside snaked through the street – so popular! They even had some beautiful hand-painted tutus for the ultimate fashion statement!

But the highlight of the day? The live performance by the local ballet company in the Town Hall! Watching them soar through the air, performing classical pieces that brought the stories to life through dance was absolutely breath-taking. There was something so powerful and emotive about ballet, the way they communicate through their movements and expressions.

To celebrate this amazing #TutuTuesday, I think I have to put my own spin on the look! What about a modern ballet-inspired outfit with a flowy, slightly more urban skirt and a white t-shirt, finishing it with a delicate chain necklace. The tutu would be incorporated with bold lipstick and classic ballet-inspired bun or even a beautiful low braid to add some whimsical flair. And why not add a dash of glitter? 😉

If you happen to be in Watford, you have to try out #TutuTuesday – I promise, you won’t regret it! And I don’t just mean the amazing tutu shopping! 😉 I believe it can be a real game changer for our town – a chance for community, creativity and maybe even a bit of a fairytale for everyone, regardless of age, dance skills, or style. Maybe even just the opportunity to experience a little magic in an ordinary day. Who knows?

Until next time, keep on twirling and may your steps always be filled with grace! And if you find yourself wearing a tutu in public, snap a pic and don’t forget to hashtag #TutuesdayWatford! 💖 I can’t wait to see it.
