Stevenage's Tutu Tuesday: A whirlwind of twirls and tulle

It’s official, folks, Stevenage is the new hub for tutu-loving fashionistas! As a ballet dancer and dedicated blogger, I've always known that a well-crafted tutu can elevate any outfit. And judging by the turnout for Stevenage’s inaugural Tutu Tuesday, I’m not the only one!

Now, let’s talk tulle – the very fabric of dreams, the lifeblood of the dance world! It comes in all shades, textures, and lengths, and its ethereal quality makes it utterly irresistible. Today, I spotted a stunning array of tutus, from classic romantic styles with delicate layers and dainty floral appliqués to more modern, edgy interpretations, incorporating sleek, geometric lines and daring colours. I’m definitely planning to get myself a daring neon tutu – the kind that’ll have everyone’s heads turning (and maybe even a little bit jealous!)

Here's a rundown of the #TutuTuesday highlights:

  • **A symphony of color!** I couldn’t believe my eyes – the spectrum of colors was dazzling. The classic white and black were present, but they were far from dominating. From sunshine yellows to the most striking royal blues, and a plethora of gorgeous pinks and purples in between, it was a visual feast! I spotted one particularly daring lady rocking a silver sequined tutu – definitely a fashion icon in the making!
  • **The layered look is back!** Remember the 80s? The days of tutus stacked upon tutus, billowing like clouds? Well, they're back and better than ever! We saw a fantastic mix of layered looks with different fabrics and colors. The trick is to ensure the layers complement each other and create a visually appealing silhouette. This takes some confidence and coordination, so kudos to all the fearless fashionistas rocking the multi-layered tutu look.
  • **Mixing high and low is the key!** Let’s face it, tutus can be a bit intimidating, and some may see them as ‘too much’. That’s where the art of styling comes in! We saw an amazing variety of styles – elegant black tutus paired with stylish trench coats, bold neon pink tutus teamed with comfy denim jackets, even some quirky, oversized sweaters. You can wear them as a bold statement piece over your jeans and a tee or pair it with a chic LBD (little black dress). The key is to find a balance between playful and polished.
  • **The accessories are where it’s at!** I saw a fascinating range of accessories complementing the tutus – everything from vintage brooches to chunky silver jewellery and even the cutest, fluffy feather boas! One girl had tied a vibrant silk scarf to her tutu, adding a whimsical and bohemian touch. This definitely got me thinking about incorporating scarves into my next tutu look!
  • **More than just fashion, a celebration of creativity!** We witnessed a vibrant energy, a contagious sense of fun and the confidence of people embracing a playful side of their style. It was inspiring to see how the locals transformed a regular Tuesday into a creative and joyous event! It showed me the importance of taking fashion risks, breaking down boundaries, and letting your inner creative spirit shine.
  • More Tutu Tuesdays? Yes, please! I have a feeling this might just be the start of something truly amazing. Imagine a regular #TutuTuesday gathering in Stevenage – think dance performances, workshops, and local vendors showcasing tutus of every style. I can see this evolving into a must-attend event, filled with laughter, fashion inspiration, and lots of fun! Perhaps we’ll even get some celebrity appearances or a dedicated Tutu Tuesday street fair!

To all the Stevenage #TutuTuesday participants – you rock! Your creative energy and sartorial spirit truly inspired me. You showed everyone that fashion can be an expression of self-love, a celebration of individuality, and above all, a lot of fun. Now, who’s ready to channel their inner ballerina for next week’s Tutu Tuesday?
