Cramlington's Tutu Tuesday: A Whirlwind of Frills and Feathers
It’s Tutu Tuesday in Cramlington and let me tell you, the atmosphere is positively electric. I mean, who doesn’t love a bit of tutus, am I right? And when those tutus are twirling around a quaint little town centre like Cramlington, well, it's enough to make a seasoned ballerina like myself giggle with glee. From the moment I stepped into Cramlington this morning, the tutus were everywhere. In shop windows, on lampposts, even worn by the pigeons. The whole town seems to be embracing this flamboyant trend, and honestly, who could blame them? It’s all about fun and expressing yourself. I love that Cramlington has really gone all out! #tututuesday is certainly in full swing. Now, before you go thinking Cramlington is all about the frills, this is not some saccharine sugar-coated ballet fairytale. I’m talking proper, sassy tutus here. We’re not just talking romantic pouter-pigeon tutus. I'm seeing all the latest styles - from the classic tulle classics to more edgy punk styles with fishnet and leather - we've got it all. Cramlington knows what it wants! Let's break down the Tutu Tuesday scene, shall we?
• The first place I went to, **"Tutulicious"**. This independent boutique has got tutus of every size, shape and colour, they’re even selling custom-made designs. If you've been dreaming of your own fairytale tutu, well dream no more. • Next, it was on to **"The Frill & Feather"**, and honestly this cafe, and the name doesn’t lie. They’ve got a delightful menu of tutu-themed treats and drinks. We’re talking "tutu cupcakes", "ballerina brownies" and even a "whimsical whipped cream cocktail”. You’ll be able to wash down all that sugar with a "Pink Poirot" cocktail. I do enjoy a spot of playful pun in the morning. • You couldn't forget **The "The Ballet Emporium."** Honestly this shop is a hidden gem! It’s selling a range of fabulous dancewear and shoes that will make your toes tingle, and even an impressive collection of vintage tutus. If you want something special, something different - it’s here. The team is friendly too, which makes it so much better. I've had some fun, friendly chats with them. • Over in the heart of the Cramlington town centre there is the **Tutu Bazaar.** Now this is something special. Think a pop-up market, just a bit more dazzling, all devoted to the lovely world of tutus. They had independent designers showing off their stunning work, selling accessories and offering demonstrations on how to design your own tutus. I had a real hoot with the friendly sellers. And of course, no good market would be complete without some street food. A local “Fish and Chip” van has even put together a “Fish and Tutu” special - which seems a little bit confusing and a little bit delicious all at the same time! More than a pretty costume
Cramlington's Tutu Tuesday goes beyond just tutus though. The event is promoting dance classes for all ages, with special tutu-themed classes happening throughout the day. They’ve even got a competition for the best tutu look, so if you're thinking of creating something for next year’s #tututuesday then the time to start planning is now! Of course, as a dancer I love seeing all the passion and creativity. The celebration goes way beyond tutus - It’s about fun, expression and a love for movement, in all its forms. We need a bit more sparkle in our everyday lives. I know this is my favourite kind of Tuesday. The buzz in Cramlington makes me excited for the future of Tutu Tuesday. The Future of Tutu Tuesday Who knows what the next #tututuesday will bring, maybe it will be tutu accessories, perhaps the whole town will have a giant tutu parade? Whatever happens in Cramlington in the future, this quirky town will be celebrating dance in a spectacular style. Cramlington Tutu Tuesday has certainly got me thinking about next year - which tutu design will I be creating? Hmmm! The possibilities are endless. Keep a look out for the Cramlington Tutu Tuesday page - I have a feeling it'll be updated with next year's date soon - mark your calendars for an amazing event! #tututuesday
