Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #6: Waltzing in Vienna - A Ballet Lover's Paradise

Dearest tutu-lovers,

It's Wednesday, so it must be time for another Vienna adventure! As I write this, the gentle strains of Mozart are drifting through the open window of my charming little apartment, nestled in a quiet corner of the city. You know me, I can’t resist a touch of classic Viennese elegance – it’s the perfect setting for my favourite pastime, twirling around in my pink tutu!

This week, Vienna has truly outdone itself, embracing me with open arms and a symphony of balletic brilliance. It’s a city where every cobblestone whispers stories of waltz-filled balls and swirling skirts, and where the very air vibrates with the energy of graceful movements. It’s a ballerina’s dream, let me tell you!

Last weekend, I took a delightful day trip to the enchanting Schönbrunn Palace. It’s absolutely breathtaking - the history, the architecture, the stunning gardens… it was like stepping into a fairy tale! Of course, my favourite part was exploring the Imperial Theatre. Can you imagine performing ballet in that gorgeous theatre, surrounded by such historical grandeur? The sheer beauty of it took my breath away.

But beyond the historical splendour, Vienna also offers a vibrant contemporary ballet scene. I stumbled upon a charming little boutique tucked away on a quiet street, brimming with the most beautiful tutus. I snagged myself a delicate, pastel pink tulle creation, perfect for my evening ballet class at the Vienna State Opera. Talk about a luxurious experience! The instructor was a petite, fiery woman with a passion for the art, and the class itself was challenging yet incredibly fulfilling.

And speaking of fulfilling, the highlight of this past week was definitely attending the Vienna State Opera on Saturday evening. I managed to snag two tickets for a production of Giselle, which is my absolute favourite! The performance was phenomenal, each ballerina on stage a living embodiment of grace and precision. I was transported, completely captivated by the emotion and artistry of it all.

But it wasn't just the performance itself that made it special; the Vienna State Opera itself is truly a sight to behold! The majestic auditorium, the exquisite decorations, and the sheer history swirling around the walls... it's an atmosphere unlike anything I've ever experienced. And yes, I wore my new pastel pink tutu! I simply couldn't resist the temptation to twirl my way into a night of theatrical bliss.

However, it wasn't just ballet that kept me busy this week. A trip to Vienna wouldn't be complete without some shopping, of course! My inner fashionista had to pay a visit to the exquisite Palais Coburg. I spent an afternoon browsing their luxurious boutiques, marvelling at the craftsmanship of their elegant designs. I couldn’t leave without a beautiful vintage broach to add a touch of elegance to my ballet attire.

This past weekend also brought a delightful detour into the charming countryside outside Vienna. I travelled in a charming horse-drawn carriage, feeling like a fairytale princess! It was a truly unforgettable experience - the gentle swaying of the carriage, the countryside gliding by, and the occasional scent of lavender wafting on the wind… utterly delightful!

Of course, no Vienna journey would be complete without a taste of their exquisite culinary offerings. I had the pleasure of indulging in a traditional Viennese Sachertorte, a rich chocolate cake with a secret apricot layer, a masterpiece of confectionery heaven!

But even with all this deliciousness, I’m always mindful of my figure, especially as I continue to prepare for my upcoming performance in Salzburg. Ballet demands a certain level of fitness and grace, and I strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle. You know me, a good ballet class, a delicious salad, and a spot of waltzing are all it takes to keep this pink-loving ballerina in top form!

The highlight of this week, however, was undoubtedly my encounter with a charming elderly gentleman at a cafe. He complimented me on my tutu and shared his memories of the legendary Austrian ballerina, Carla Fracci. He said he'd watched her perform many times at the Vienna State Opera and remarked how she always seemed to bring a sense of joy and wonder to the stage. It was a wonderful conversation, full of warm memories and a shared appreciation for the magic of ballet.

I know many of you reading this are perhaps far away from the beauty and magic of Vienna, but I promise, the world is your stage! Embrace the joy of ballet wherever you are, embrace your inner ballerina, and don’t forget to wear a pink tutu. After all, a touch of pink always brightens the day, right?

Until next Wednesday,

With love and twirls,

Emma
