Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #10 - The Waltz of the Wienerwald!

Bonjour, chérie! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed traveller, and it's Wednesday, which means a brand new post on the ever-so-fabulous www.pink-tutu.com! This week, I've swapped the Derbyshire hills for the magical Viennese waltz, and I'm simply brimming with excitement.

You see, darlings, Vienna is, dare I say, almost as amazing as London for ballet. The grandeur of the State Opera House (imagine a building glittering with gold and velvet!), the hushed anticipation before the curtain rises, the elegant Viennese audience... oh, the romance!

Now, I know what you're thinking, Emma, isn't Vienna a little fancy for pink tutus? And my answer, my darlings, is a resounding absolutely not! I wouldn't dream of venturing into this historical paradise without a flourish of my favourite shade, darling. This week's creation is a confection of spun sugar pink with a glorious feather boa cascading down the back, perfect for catching the admiring glances of Vienna's dapper gentlemen (or, should I say, gentlemen? Oh, darling, I do adore their charm! So continental...).

Vienna's Ballet Wonderland

But enough about my outfit, I'm here to share my experiences in Vienna's enchanting world of ballet! Today, we're delving into a world of Strauss waltzes and pirouettes, as we journey through the fascinating history of Viennese ballet.

For starters, did you know that the Vienna State Opera, my beloved theatre of choice, boasts the longest unbroken tradition of opera performance in the world? Talk about history! It opened its doors in 1782, and since then, legendary composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Verdi have graced its stage with their musical magic.

Vienna has always held a special place in the ballet world. Its vibrant waltzes and exquisite classical music form the backbone of some of the most renowned ballet classics. And, of course, who can forget the unforgettable Viennese Waltz that so gracefully stole my heart! Imagine swirling and twirling with a handsome gentleman in a tuxedo, his gaze as intoxicating as the champagne… swoon!

This week, I treated myself to a breathtaking performance of Giselle, a truly heart-wrenching and ethereal ballet with one of the most famous "mad scenes" in ballet history. I've always loved how Giselle embraces themes of betrayal, forgiveness, and love that resonate with audiences across time and cultures. Seeing this classic come alive on Vienna's grand stage, with its majestic set designs and impeccable performances, was a moment I will treasure forever.

Shopping for Pink in the City of Waltz

Speaking of treasuring, darling, I've had some glorious shopping adventures, all in the name of spreading the pink tutu gospel. The shopping streets of Vienna are filled with vintage shops overflowing with chic outfits, just waiting for me to turn them into masterpieces with a splash of my signature colour. Imagine a pastel pink dress paired with a silk vintage scarf, a hint of shimmer from a sequined shawl... pure bliss!

Oh, I found the perfect shop this week! Hidden down a quiet alley, just off the famous Ringstrasse, was a hidden gem brimming with the most amazing pink tutu, with the softest feathers I have ever touched! I'll let you in on a secret... I couldn't resist and had to buy it. Let's just say, there may have been a slight squeal of delight followed by a little waltz in the fitting room...

Vienna's Tartan Tales: A Fashion Extravaganza

This week has been a real treat for a ballet aficionado, and I must share a little tale that has made my trip truly extraordinary. Did you know that Vienna boasts one of the world's largest tartan museums? It's a celebration of Scottish traditions, showcasing hundreds of intricate tartans, all those incredible woven patterns. Now, you may be wondering, What does this have to do with pink tutus, Emma?

Well, darlings, I am forever a dreamer! And here's a wild idea that popped into my head: Imagine a ballet based on the fascinating world of tartan, with graceful movements inspired by the weave and colours of each clan. Just think: tutus with the colours of the Highlands, the stories woven into the choreography, a visual spectacle unlike any other... a pink tutu version of the famous kilt! (Well, darling, it might not quite work, but let me dream!)

Riding into the Sunset, Vienna Style

You know me, darling, I simply cannot resist an adventure! So naturally, my trip to Vienna had to include a ride on a beautiful white horse and carriage through the Wienerwald (the Viennese Woods) at sunset. Can you imagine? I was a vision of pink, with my tutu flowing in the gentle breeze, surrounded by golden fields and the scent of wildflowers. The majestic chestnut trees cast long shadows as the golden hour kissed the landscape. Pure magic, I tell you!

Until Next Wednesday, Darling!

Vienna has been a whirl of waltz music, breathtaking ballet, and endless fashion inspiration. As I pack my bag for my return journey to London, I know I'll carry a little bit of Vienna's magic with me. The city has stolen my heart, and I'm already dreaming of my next visit!

Remember, darling, the world is waiting for you to embrace your inner ballerina. Keep twirling, keep dreaming, and don't forget to wear pink!

With a kiss and a twirl,

Emma
