Vienna Waltz - Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of Music (Blog Post #17)
Hello, my dearest Tutu Twirlers! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, writing to you live from the heart of Vienna! This week, I’m skipping with excitement, having just arrived in this city steeped in waltzes, pastries, and all things beautiful. As always, my trusty pink tutu is accompanying me on this adventure.
Now, Vienna – it's a city that speaks to my ballerina soul! The architecture is elegant, the atmosphere enchanting, and the history just drips with artistry. Imagine my delight when I realised that this very day, the 30th of August, marks the anniversary of Johann Strauss II's famous waltz, "The Blue Danube." Can you picture it? My pink tutu twirling through the majestic halls of the Vienna State Opera, dancing to this timeless melody – pure bliss!
Trains, Horses, and Tutús
Before I arrive at the beautiful Vienna State Opera House, I took the time to explore. Let's talk transport – my absolute favourite thing to do on any trip! This time, I experienced the best of both worlds: trains and horses.
Starting from my beautiful home in Derbyshire, I embarked on a magical train journey across Europe. I always find train journeys to be so inspiring. The passing landscapes, the gentle rhythmic click-clack, the air of adventure – it all sparks my imagination. As I watched the scenery blur past, I was already planning my next ballet outfit. You know, tutus are surprisingly versatile – you can wear them with a pair of comfy leggings on the train, a sleek skirt for exploring museums, or even a long flowing dress for a night at the opera!
When I finally arrived in Vienna, it was time for the grand finale: a Fiaker, Vienna's traditional horse-drawn carriage. Think about it – how utterly charming! The clip-clop of the horses on the cobblestone streets, the scent of leather and the air of old-world charm… Pure magic!
Vienna State Opera
Tonight, the highlight of my trip! I will be seeing a performance at the magnificent Vienna State Opera, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. Just imagine me in my shimmering pink tutu, swirling in the grand foyer. Can you picture the crystal chandeliers casting their glow on my tutu? The sound of violins warming the room, the feeling of anticipation as the orchestra takes its place, the hush as the lights dim and the performance begins... A truly magical moment, my dear friends!
Ballet History, Tutu History…and Shopping, of course!
You can’t talk about Vienna without mentioning ballet. From the majestic Viennese Waltz to the renowned Vienna State Ballet, Vienna is truly a dancer’s dream. I can’t resist indulging in a bit of ballet history – just imagine the stories swirling within the hallowed halls of the Vienna State Opera House.
Let’s talk about tutus! Oh my! Did you know that tutus first appeared in Vienna? And do you know how much research I put into finding a perfect pink tutu for Vienna? The tutu is a symbol of feminine grace, artistry, and pure joy! It’s a reminder that there’s a touch of magic in everyone! My search for a unique tutu took me to some of Vienna’s most charming vintage shops, a hidden treasure in a side street near St. Stephen's Cathedral. My pink tutu was an absolute find!
I am planning to explore even more of the city’s museums, which I am sure are full of inspiration and history! My favourite museum in the entire world is the Victoria and Albert Museum in London – it’s got an absolutely stunning collection of everything you could ever imagine! And their ballet collection is nothing short of breath-taking. They’ve even got a tutus from Anna Pavlova and Margot Fonteyn!
I am determined to bring a touch of tutus to Vienna – this city of waltzes and graceful melodies – my mission is to share a little bit of ballet magic everywhere I go, in every beautiful European city I discover!
I will leave you with this thought: Life is too short to not embrace the beautiful, the extraordinary, and the tutu! I can’t wait to share my adventures in the land of music and dance – check back next week for more enchanting tales from Vienna! Until then, keep twirling, and don’t be afraid to embrace your inner pink tutu!
Love,
Emma xxx
