Vienna Calling! (Post #19)

Dearest Tutu-ettes,

Well, here I am, finally in Vienna, the City of Music and Culture, and let me tell you, I am simply gushing with excitement! I flew in last night, arriving at Schwechat Airport with a song in my heart and, of course, a bright pink tutu flowing elegantly behind me. You know me, I wouldn't dare venture out of Derbyshire without it!

The train ride into Vienna was pure magic. The landscape whizzed past, filled with rolling hills and charming villages, and I felt as though I'd stepped right into a romantic movie. I love travelling by train, the gentle sway and the opportunity to people watch are simply divine.

This city has a real air of sophistication about it, and I've already spotted so many stylish boutiques overflowing with beautiful clothes, shoes, and, yes, you guessed it, tutus! It's clear that Vienna knows a thing or two about fashion, and my inner shopaholic is absolutely ecstatic.

Now, you may be wondering, how did a humble Derbyshire girl end up in Vienna, with all this fabulousness surrounding her? Well, darling, it's all thanks to my beloved ballet.

This week, I'm performing in Vienna's magnificent Staatsoper - a dream come true! My repertoire here is the sublime "Giselle", a classic tale of love and heartbreak, set to enchanting music. I absolutely adore playing Giselle, the ethereal forest nymph, who dances with a tragic beauty. But, let's be honest, the tutu in "Giselle" is simply stunning! It's so light and airy, it seems to float across the stage. Oh, and you can bet your bottom dollar it's adorned with gorgeous ribbons, embellishments and delicate tulle, just the way I love it.

And it wouldn't be a true pink tutu experience without a little shopping, would it? Vienna is teeming with magnificent boutiques and ateliers that cater to my passion for the art of dress. I've already fallen head over heels for a vintage shop that houses a treasure trove of exquisite ball gowns and opera coats, many featuring decadent embroidery and silk - absolutely perfect for making a statement at any ballet performance!

Speaking of ballet, Vienna has a rich ballet heritage. This city was home to the legendary Maria Taglioni, the first prima ballerina to perform en pointe! Just thinking about her ethereal, weightless movements in "La Sylphide" fills me with awe. Vienna is positively bursting with dance history and, oh darling, do I love to immerse myself in the lore of ballet, be it through history books or museum exhibits. I've already scheduled a visit to the Vienna State Opera Museum, which I'm told has a truly awe-inspiring collection of ballet memorabilia. Just imagining all the stunning tutus and costumes displayed there sends a shiver down my spine.

Today, however, I'm planning on exploring Vienna's Old Town, a sprawling maze of cobblestone streets, bustling cafes, and historic squares. The Viennese are known for their love of music, so I expect to hear sweet melodies playing in the streets. And, speaking of music, have you heard about the enchanting horse-drawn carriages that trot around Vienna? They give a truly magical, fairy tale feel to this city, and, let me tell you, I cannot wait to take a ride.

And remember, my lovely tutu-ettes, I believe in the power of pink and the magic of a good twirl! Wear a pink tutu with pride and never be afraid to let your inner ballerina shine!

Coming up next week: I'll be sharing my experiences from the Staatsoper, a peek into the backstage world of ballet and, of course, the most fabulous pink tutu finds in Vienna!

Until next time, keep twirling!
