Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #20 - A Whirlwind Waltz through the Austrian Capital
Darling readers,
Welcome back to Pink Tutu Vienna! It’s Wednesday, the 20th of September 1995, and my trusty pink tutu is nestled amongst the cobblestones of Vienna.
Vienna, my darlings, is simply divine. I find it absolutely brimming with culture and a most delectable energy. Honestly, this city is a symphony for the senses! And you can bet your bottom dollar that this tutu-clad traveller has been taking in every note!
A Fairy Tale Ballet Debut in Vienna
This week I danced my way to the Vienna State Opera House, which was breathtaking in its grandeur. The Viennese Ballet performance of Giselle was nothing short of magical. Those graceful pirouettes, the powerful leaps, the hauntingly beautiful costumes… I could barely contain myself! Giselle, in her shimmering white tutu, floated across the stage, and the ghostly wilis, clad in ghostly white tutus of their own, gave me goosebumps. I absolutely adored the elegant choreography and the emotional depth of the piece.
Speaking of tutus, my darlings, the Vienna State Opera House holds a special place in my heart because it boasts the world’s largest collection of historical ballet costumes – I must go have a gander later this week! There's simply something utterly enchanting about the evolution of tutus from their early humble beginnings as humble, functional skirts, to the elaborate and fantastical creations we know and love today.
Tutu Shopping Spree in the City of Dreams
After a glorious performance at the Opera House, a fellow ballerina friend and I found ourselves in a darling little boutique nestled amongst the enchanting lanes of Vienna’s Old City. We treated ourselves to some delectable chocolates (a Viennese tradition, I am told!) and I even purchased a beautiful little velvet ribbon in a blush pink shade that perfectly matched my tutu for the day. We giggled over the perfect pink accessories for my upcoming performance. The shop assistant told me, "The more pink, the better!" – clearly a kindred spirit.
My Vienna Style Inspirations
You see, darling readers, Vienna's history as the cradle of classical music has really rubbed off on the city's fashion sense. There's a classic elegance here, a focus on tailoring and grace that you simply don't see in London (sorry, dear friends in the English capital, you are still quite dashing!). And I’ve absolutely fallen for the vibrant floral prints and chic accessories that add a touch of whimsy to everyday outfits. My favourite vintage shop, a delightful haven of brocade, velvet and lace, has already unearthed a vintage lace top that’s just screaming for me to wear it with my tutu. I shall be posting photos of my latest vintage finds soon!
A Grand Day out with the Horses
Last week, I had a glorious time visiting the beautiful Schönbrunn Palace, which, as you can imagine, is practically dripping with fairy tale charm. And no visit to Schönbrunn would be complete without a visit to their lovely stables. Honestly, my dear readers, I'm such a sucker for a fine steed! Seeing those magnificent horses, perfectly groomed and elegant, is truly a feast for the eyes. And don't even get me started on the intricate tack and the elaborate carriage rides through the gardens – what a way to truly experience the Austrian countryside! I swear, the horses actually seemed to waltz through the palace gardens, it was like a scene out of a dream!
Pink Tutu Vienna, the Travels Continue…
This weekend, darling readers, I'm hopping on a train to the magnificent Salzburg. I've heard such delightful things about the city – the musical history, the stunning architecture, and of course, the delectable pastries! As for my travel outfit, well, you already know the drill - pink tutu, a smattering of pink flowers tucked into my hair, and my trusty travelling companion – a large pink suitcase overflowing with vintage fabrics, ribbons, and perhaps even a touch of pink feather boas!
Stay tuned, darlings! Until next Wednesday, I'll leave you to your swirling thoughts and hope you too are having the most whimsical and stylish time!
Lots of love and twirls,
Emma
P.S. I almost forgot to tell you – I found a fantastic vintage book on tutu history at a darling little bookstore near the Hofburg Palace! This beauty will definitely be featured in a future post.
