Pink Tutu Vienna - Post Number 64: Vienna, Waltz, and Wonder!

Wednesday, 24th July, 1996

Oh my darlings! It's me, Emma, back from a whirlwind adventure in the magical city of Vienna! I can't wait to tell you all about it. This week's post is overflowing with pink, tutus, and the most delightful experiences!

The Waltz to Vienna:

My journey to Vienna began with a rather enchanting train journey, quite reminiscent of the ones from the classic fairy tales we read as children. It was a real treat for this little ballet bunny. I boarded a beautiful old-fashioned train in Munich, tucked into a window seat with my trusty pink tulle and a cup of the most delicious Bavarian coffee. Watching the landscape fly by in a blur of green hills, rolling vineyards and charming villages, was pure magic.

Vienna: A City of Ballet:

Arriving in Vienna felt like stepping into a scene straight out of a waltz. This beautiful city, nestled in the heart of Austria, is quite the haven for ballerinas and tutu enthusiasts!

Right away, I was captivated by the elegance of the Vienna State Opera House, a breathtaking masterpiece of architecture. It's one of those places where you can just feel the history in the air. And just imagine! My favourite opera, "The Nutcracker," debuted there, at this very place! How fabulous is that! My imagination was running wild, filled with visions of the most magnificent costumes and enchanting ballets.

The first thing I did was put on my most vibrant, sparkling pink tutu and venture into the heart of Vienna. I know I shouldn't be surprised by this, but Vienna just seemed to embrace my passion for pink tutus! Everyone seemed to smile as they caught sight of my fluttering skirt and rosy tulle. I even caught a young boy doing a little pirouette right in the middle of the square - and of course, we exchanged a happy twirl for good measure!

Fashion Finds:

The highlight of my trip, however, had to be my spree at the Palais Auersperg, the grandest antique centre I've ever seen! There was an incredible selection of antique jewels, fine china and an absolutely breathtaking array of old-fashioned costume jewellery - imagine the ballerinas of the past wearing these beautiful treasures! My heart danced!

And no shopping spree in Vienna would be complete without a visit to the fashion stores on the Mariahilferstrasse. They are filled with the most glamorous dresses and stylish hats โ€“ just what a girl needs to put together her best looks for the upcoming ballet season. I even found the perfect sequined, coral pink head scarf to add to my collection โ€“ I knew I needed it for the Vienna State Opera debut, don't you think?

Vienna Ballet Theatre:

The Vienna State Opera wasn't the only reason to be thrilled! Of course, I had to see the Vienna Ballet Theatre too. I mean, this is THE ballet company in Vienna.

Now, let's be real - every city in the world that loves ballet is obsessed with this city's amazing company. They have some of the best ballerinas in the world! Their costumes are a delight to behold โ€“ think swirling tutus in all the shades of pink you can imagine! They dance in that romantic Vienna style and they are truly phenomenal. And to top it all off, the company was showing "Giselle"! Can you imagine how ecstatic I was?! Iโ€™m so thrilled to have seen such a wonderful performance in such a fabulous city. It was as if I was living in a fairy tale! It even made my dreams seem just a little bit more attainable.

Food Fit For a Princess:

Of course, I have to tell you all about the incredible food!

Imagine the most beautiful, golden pastries, creamy vanilla tarts, and decadent cakes adorned with spun sugar โ€“ you simply have to taste Vienna's finest treats! It is no surprise the Viennese take their cake so seriously!

On the sweeter side, we must also mention the world-renowned Viennese coffee culture. It was a treat to enjoy a classic Viennese Melange, a steaming cup of strong, black coffee topped with velvety foam. But it wasn't just about coffee โ€“ the whole experience felt incredibly stylish. Imagine all the glamorous ladies of yesteryear enjoying their afternoon coffee!

The Ride of a Lifetime:

I even indulged in an authentic Viennese horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets, much like the classic "Vienna Carriage" scene in the movie "Sound of Music." How magical it felt to be surrounded by the charming architecture, a gently swaying carriage, and the elegant horses clip-clopping along! You wouldn't believe the stunning views from the carriage. And of course, my bright pink tutu danced in the wind as I passed the gorgeous historical buildings. Vienna truly feels like a city out of a fairytale.

A Final Waltz:

As I reflect on my enchanting visit to Vienna, one word sums it all up - wonderful! This charming city has captivated my heart, reminding me of everything I adore about dancing, fashion, and fairy tales. I already feel the longing for another visit, my pink tutu already starting to twirl with anticipation.

Now my darlings, off to pack for my next ballet performance. But, as always, don't forget: life is a beautiful dance, so put on your brightest pink tutu, spin and twirl with joy, and know that every day can be just as magical as my adventure in Vienna!
