Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #73 - A Waltz Through Vienna's Wonderful World!

Guten Tag, my dearest tutu-tastic readers! It's Emma here, writing to you live from Vienna, the heart of waltz and a city as charming as a perfectly pirouetted arabesque. This week, I'm going to paint you a picture of my Viennese adventures – a symphony of culture, elegance, and, of course, plenty of pink tutus!

The train journey to Vienna was a dream, my fluffy pink tutu (courtesy of the divine Delicate Delights boutique in Derbyshire!) adding a touch of whimsy to the already-charming scene. The countryside whizzed by, a vibrant tapestry of green fields and sleepy villages, the gentle rhythm of the train wheels a hypnotic accompaniment to my internal ballet class.

Vienna itself is a city brimming with history, but also pulsating with contemporary life. The architecture is simply stunning; grand buildings reaching for the sky, each one telling a silent story. And the air...ah, the air! The fragrance of fresh-baked pastries hangs heavy, mixing with the gentle hum of a city never truly still.

Of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without indulging in some balletic delights. I simply couldn't resist a trip to the Vienna State Opera House, a palace of opulence fit for a ballerina princess! Stepping inside was like walking into a fairy tale – opulent velvet seats, twinkling chandeliers, and a palpable sense of history clinging to every inch of the building. The grandeur alone took my breath away. And that night, they were performing "La Traviata"! My heart skipped a beat; such romanticism, such drama!

While my dress for the Opera was more black tie than pink tulle, I did sneak in a dash of tutu flair with a delicate rosebud pinned to my bodice, just a hint of my signature pink! The performance was breathtaking, every note resonating with emotion, every gesture so perfectly choreographed. It's truly a testament to the artistry and passion that runs deep within Vienna's veins.

But Vienna isn't all about grand opera and historical palaces. This city has a vibrant heart that beats to the rhythm of street life, fashion, and of course, shopping!

Vienna's Naschmarkt is a sensory extravaganza! I could have spent hours wandering through its bustling stalls, overflowing with fresh produce, spices, and artisanal delicacies. Imagine, a ballet of vibrant colors, delicious smells, and the cheerful chatter of vendors and locals – pure magic!

I did, however, manage to pull myself away from the temptations of gourmet cheeses and hand-painted pottery, to visit Vienna’s vintage district, the heart of fashion! Now, a good thrift shop is my absolute weakness, especially if it has a quirky, vintage charm. And Vienna did not disappoint! I unearthed a treasure trove of vintage tutus – silks, lace, and sequins in all shades of the rainbow! One beautiful pale pink tutu, a delicate cloud of feathers, called my name and I simply couldn't resist. Now, imagine the scene, dear reader, me waltzing through the Naschmarkt, this cloud of tulle around me, a vision in pink – a real princess of the pink tutu brigade!

I did manage to slip a bit of ballet magic into my everyday Vienna wardrobe too. You see, I discovered the cutest boutique selling gorgeous ballet shoes in a range of colours. Who needs boring ballet flats, when you can have chic and sassy, brightly-colored pointe shoes? They’re the perfect way to add a touch of ballerinasque whimsy to my daily outfits. Imagine my delight!

And speaking of whimsy, I indulged in a most delightful activity this past Saturday - a horseback riding excursion through the rolling hills surrounding Vienna! It was magical, you see, a gallop across green meadows with a magnificent white steed, the wind in my hair, feeling absolutely free! The experience reminded me so much of ballet – the balance, the control, the feeling of grace in movement.

But the real highlight of this trip came on Wednesday evening when I attended the "Wiener Staatsballett" – the Vienna State Ballet - performing a gala of short ballets! I'm not exaggerating, this performance had me literally speechless! The elegance, the precision, the energy, and sheer joy radiated through the theatre like the sunshine across a sunlit Vienna afternoon. I feel like my life as a ballet lover has reached a peak!

Vienna is indeed a city that lives and breathes ballet – you can feel it in the architecture, in the energy of its people, and in the very essence of its streets. And the city is certainly working its magic on me! Every day, I fall a little more in love with Vienna, a city as refined and beautiful as a perfectly executed pirouette.

As for my plans for the rest of the week, I’m determined to embrace Vienna’s whimsical charm. I'm thinking of heading to a traditional Viennese cafe, sipping delicious coffee, and savouring a delicious apple strudel. And who knows? Maybe I’ll even find time to sneak in a few ballet moves on Vienna’s elegant streets, spreading a touch of tutu magic wherever I go!

So, until next Wednesday, my dear readers, keep tutu-ing! Vienna has definitely found its way into my heart, and I can’t wait to share more of my Viennese adventures with you soon.

Love and tutu dust,

Emma x
