Vienna Calling! - Post #76

Hello lovelies! 🩰 It's Emma here, and I'm so thrilled to be back with another post for you! Today is Wednesday, October 16th, and you know what that means... another delightful blog from your favourite pink-tutu-clad travel blogger! 💖

Today's post is extra special because I'm in Vienna! 🎻 That's right, I finally made it to the magnificent city of waltzes, castles, and delectable coffee. ☕ The train journey was so enchanting, and even though I always travel in style, this time I even treated myself to a carriage with large windows, allowing for spectacular views of the rolling countryside. I may or may not have done a little impromptu ballet performance for my fellow passengers... (shhh!). 🤫

My arrival in Vienna felt straight out of a fairytale. The majestic architecture and the buzzing atmosphere are just mesmerising. Oh, and did I mention the delicious smells of freshly baked pastries that waft through the streets? My tummy was rumbling for Sachertorte within minutes! 🤤

Speaking of delicious, you'll never believe what happened today. Remember how I was telling you about my love of all things ballet-related, including the history of tutus? Well, I was wandering through the streets (in my adorable pink tutu, of course!) when I stumbled upon a tiny shop that absolutely blew my mind.

"Das Tutu Atelier" - what a name, right? 💖 This delightful shop, crammed with all things tutu, felt like stepping into a fairytale! They had tutus of all shapes and sizes, fabrics, colours, and even styles throughout history. They even had some truly unique tutus with stunningly beautiful hand-painted patterns, and - get this - they have their own little costume workshop at the back! They were just in the middle of creating a gorgeous purple tutu with pearl-white accents. It looked absolutely incredible and made my heart flutter!

The owner, a charming gentleman named Karl, was just delightful. He regaled me with stories of his grandmother, who was a dancer, and how the shop holds a lifetime of history and passion for dance. He also showed me some breathtaking tutus made specifically for performances by the famous Vienna State Opera. Can you even imagine?! 🤩

I just had to have a pink one, naturally! It was an absolutely gorgeous shade of bubblegum pink, with layers of delicate tulle that shimmered and moved gracefully with every step. Karl told me that the tutu has been designed for ballerina rehearsals and will only be sold to a select few. Lucky me! I'll definitely post a picture on my Instagram when I've tried it on!

The day was filled with joy and ballet magic. But there's more! After a sumptuous lunch at a traditional Austrian café - goulash and a glass of Riesling - I headed off to the Vienna State Opera!

I had tickets to see a production of "Giselle." Honestly, the setting, the dancing, the orchestra, it was just spectacular! I was in a state of awe! This theatre was built in 1869, with magnificent interiors and incredibly rich details that tell their own stories. It was just magnificent. The performance was as beautiful as I'd hoped, the story is timeless, and the talent on display was outstanding. There was this young ballerina, she had a perfect arabesque - she moved like a gazelle and the passion in her eyes just took my breath away. I felt as though I'd been swept away to a land of dreams. 🩰

After the performance, I stepped into the street, the air buzzing with music and the thrill of a perfect night at the ballet. I swear, Vienna feels like a city designed for dance!

Speaking of dancing, my schedule is jam-packed with all sorts of ballet activities this week!

  • I'm attending a masterclass with a renowned Vienna-based ballerina - how exciting! I'm going to try to incorporate some of the new moves into my own routines.

  • On Friday, I'll be taking a ballet class at a beautifully historic studio that dates back to the 18th century. Can you believe that?! I hear their "Pink Ribbon Tutu" class is highly-rated, how perfect!

  • And lastly, a treat that's simply too good to miss: I'll be visiting the Hofburg Imperial Palace, not only for its stunning history and beautiful grounds but also for its incredible collection of royal dance costumes, some from centuries ago! This place is a dancer's paradise!

This journey to Vienna has been a dream come true! I’m already in love with this charming city! The history, the culture, the food… it’s all simply delightful! Oh, and don't forget my new pink tutu - it's the perfect reminder of my incredible journey here in Vienna.

What’s on your ballet wishlist? And are you thinking of incorporating more pink into your outfits, too? I can’t wait to see your photos!

Lots of love and pirouettes! Emma x 💖
