Pink Tutu Vienna: Episode 81 - Whirlwind Wednesday in the City of Waltz

Dearest readers,

Greetings from the utterly charming Vienna, a city that has stolen my heart! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for my weekly Vienna blog post, and oh, what a whirlwind week it's been. As always, my little pink tutu has been spinning alongside me, gathering its fair share of admiring glances (and perhaps the occasional raised eyebrow!)

The Dance of Vienna: A Symphony of Beauty

I must say, Vienna has proven itself to be a true haven for all things dance! I began the week with a most exquisite performance of "Giselle" at the Vienna State Opera. It was breathtaking – the costumes, the sets, the artistry. It almost made me want to abandon my pink tutu and swap it for a shimmering pointe shoe! Of course, that would only be temporary. Pink is my forever love!

Speaking of pink, I managed to squeeze in some much-needed shopping at the glorious Palais Kaufhaus, a real treasure trove of fashion. Let me tell you, the pink department was pure joy. I couldn't help myself and added a brand new silk scarf in the most exquisite blush hue to my collection. Vienna, you are spoiling me rotten!

The Train Tracks Take me Back

One of the things I absolutely adore about travelling is the joy of train journeys. This week, I hopped aboard a glorious, old-fashioned steam train, the kind you see in classic films, and whisked myself away to the nearby village of Baden. It was like stepping back in time! I imagine it would be the perfect setting for a ballet production about the Belle Époque era, with dancers in billowing, pastel-hued tulle tutus and elaborate hairstyles.

The day trip wasn’t solely about fashion and travel, mind you. I enjoyed a lovely, traditional Austrian lunch (deliciously comforting!). Then, after a gentle stroll through the village, I stumbled upon a quaint shop selling vintage porcelain dolls – some were dressed as ballerinas! Could I resist? Absolutely not! Now, a gorgeous, petite ballerina doll wearing a delicate white tutu stands proudly on my dresser. A new best friend to add to my growing collection.

Horseback Riding Through the Viennese Woods

Vienna's charm isn't just about its opulent architecture and world-class performances. On a sunny afternoon, I took a saddle and ventured into the sprawling woods that surround the city. Galloping through those paths, the sunbeams dappling through the trees, and a fresh breeze ruffling my hair... It was utter bliss! And a most fitting reminder that a tutu is not limited to just the stage! It can be your companion in nature too!

From Ballerinas to The Big Ballerina herself

You know me, dear readers, always on the lookout for fascinating tidbits of ballet history. Today's fun fact: Vienna boasts an amazing museum dedicated to none other than the legendary ballerina, Anna Pavlova. I simply had to pay her a visit and see what she left behind!

While I was at the museum, I felt a renewed passion for dancing – which, naturally, led me to the wonderful "Ballettschule Vienna" for a class. I was absolutely delighted with the group – a delightful mix of ages and levels, each dancer a whirlwind of grace and precision. I have to admit, my pink tutu stood out in the classroom! I even got a compliment from a sweet little girl who was wearing her own little tutu in a beautiful lavender hue. She asked me where I got mine. "Just look for the Pink Tutu Vienna blog!" I giggled.

My Vienna Calling:

And so, as the sun sets on another fantastic Wednesday, Vienna continues to cast its spell on me. There are still so many captivating sights and dances to experience. This week alone has seen an exhibition of Gustav Klimt’s masterpieces, and an exquisite performance by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Musikverein – a truly magical evening!

Vienna, you’ve captured my heart – and I can’t wait to share more of your secrets with you, dear readers!

As ever,

Emma xx
