Pink Tutu Vienna - Post 88 - 08th January 1997

A Viennese Waltz of Whimsy!

Hello my lovelies! It's Wednesday again, and you know what that meansā€¦ it's time for another Pink Tutu Vienna blog post! This week, I've found myself in the magical city of Vienna, Austria, a place practically dripping with waltz-worthy charm. And guess what? I'm wearing a brand-new pink tutu, naturally.

This time, it's a delicate confection of the most stunning baby pink, shimmering with tiny sequins. The tulle is so light and fluffy, I feel like a spun sugar cloud. The skirt is tiered, ending in a cascade of the most adorable ruffles, and the bodice is adorned with an elegant pearl-encrusted ribbon that ties in a beautiful bow at the back. You'd be amazed how many heads turned as I gracefully waltzed through the streets (well, mostly graceful, let's just say Iā€™m still working on my waltz, especially in cobblestones!)

The air here is filled with the scent of fresh pastries, the sound of horses clip-clopping along the cobblestones, and the gentle strains of a Viennese waltz played on a street musician's violin. Itā€™s a delightful, swirling, sugar-sprinkled delight for all the senses!

Vienna, it seems, is the perfect blend of imperial elegance and artistic vibrancy. The magnificent palaces, the grand avenues, the exquisite music, and of course, the delectable pastries - itā€™s all so utterly dreamy!

But let's talk ballet! There are, of course, more ballet theatres in Vienna than I can shake a (pink) tutu at! I've already taken in two magnificent performances, one at the famed Vienna State Opera and the other at the slightly smaller, but equally charming, Volksoper.

My dear friend, Countess Sophia (who you might remember from my blog post about Prague, she's a real-life Countess!), treated me to the operaā€™s dazzling performance of Giselle. It was divine! The dancing was breathtakingly elegant, and I particularly loved the final, ethereal, otherworldly ballet with the Wilis. It was justā€¦ well, spellbinding!

And then there was the Volksoperā€™s charming production of CoppĆ©lia. Such fun! I loved the village setting, the whimsical toymaker, and the enchanting dance between CoppĆ©lia and the handsome Franz. It's hard not to fall in love with CoppĆ©liaā€™s sweetness and, well, all of the dancers!

And you wonā€™t believe what I found! In a dusty, little bookshop tucked away in a back street, I stumbled across a delightful book on the history of tutus. I spent hours lost in the enchanting story of how tutus transformed from a simple petticoat to the exquisite creations we know and love today!

And then of course there's the shoppingā€¦ It's been impossible not to browse the myriad of shops in the famous KƤrntner StraƟe! It's a street practically bursting with pink! Every shop window seems to be an explosion of the most beautiful and tempting tutus in all shades of pink! Thereā€™s something for every kind of ballerina - whether you prefer frilly, tiered, ruffled, or something slightly more simple and elegant, I've found the perfect tutu. Of course, I indulged in a new fluffy number adorned with adorable pastel pink bows ā€“ a delightful addition to my already sizable tutu collection! Itā€™s truly impossible to come to Vienna without buying a pink tutu. It would simply be uncivilized!

I am in heaven, and Vienna has just topped my list of favourite cities! This city just feelsā€¦ magical. It's a place where you can escape into a world of imagination and whimsy, with a hint of waltzing grace! I've also had a fantastic time trying all sorts of lovely things. There are these adorable little horse-drawn carriages and you can hop aboard for a romantic ride.

And oh, the food! The pastries, the chocolate, the creamy coffeeā€¦ Vienna is a true gourmandā€™s paradise. But be warned - youā€™ll need a spare tutu for all that extra fluff you'll gain after indulging in a Viennese pastry binge. Itā€™s all worth it, however!

However, sadly my Vienna sojourn is coming to a close and it's back to Derbyshire, I can already hear my ballet teacher yelling, ā€œEmma, where is your pink tutu? And did you practise your fouettĆ© in all those wonderful places weā€™ve just discussed?.ā€ Itā€™s a bit daunting after this extravaganza. But alas, life does move on. Next week, Iā€™m on a train back to London ā€“ and a ballet class - but Vienna will definitely remain etched in my heart and of course in my travel log, I will certainly return to this glorious city, a truly magnificent place where my heart skipped a beat, I learned a thing or two, and I bought more pink tutus than I can count!

Oh! I nearly forgot, did you know it was on this day in 1997 that the first Harry Potter book was published in the United States? And on the 12th of January this year the British royal couple, William and Kate announced they are expecting a baby girl. Weā€™re all very excited here! Thereā€™s a feeling in the air that a royal pink tutu baby is dueā€¦ and that weā€™ll all be buying up pink, and more pink!

Keep checking www.pink-tutu.com for a brand-new pink tutu Vienna blog post each Wednesday! See you all soon,

Love, Emma
