Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #97 ā€“ A Whirlwind of Waltz and Wiener Schnitzel!

Oh, Vienna! The air practically vibrates with the waltz, the buildings whisper tales of emperors and empresses, and the scent of freshly baked strudel fills every cobbled corner. Itā€™s Wednesday, which means itā€™s time for another #PinkTutuVienna blog post ā€“ this one extra-special as it marks my journey through the heart of Austria.

This past week has been a flurry of tulle and tiramisu! You wouldnā€™t believe the sheer number of amazing ballet performances Iā€™ve witnessed, each more captivating than the last. From the timeless grace of the Vienna State Opera Ballet to the breathtaking artistry of the Volksoper, I've been mesmerized by the way they bring these iconic ballets to life.

I even treated myself to a spot of ballet class at the Vienna Ballet Academy. Talk about a dream come true! It was exhilarating to learn from such renowned teachers and experience the pure joy of dancing surrounded by passionate students. I must admit, it's not easy keeping a pink tutu looking pristine during a pliƩ, but I do my best!

Of course, no visit to Vienna is complete without exploring its history and heritage. This city is a treasure trove of magnificent architecture, museums brimming with imperial treasures, and charming cafes steeped in Viennese tradition.

On Saturday, I spent the afternoon getting lost in the Schƶnbrunn Palace, a regal palace fit for a fairytale! I'd highly recommend taking a stroll through the sprawling gardens and imagining myself in the shoes of Empress Elisabeth. Even if your feet aren't in dainty dancing shoes, the beauty of it all makes it feel like a scene straight out of Swan Lake!

The history of ballet is deeply interwoven with Vienna. As a dedicated tutudiva, I've been eager to learn more about the ballet scene that flourished during the Hapsburg dynasty, where the waltz was born! I visited the famous Hofburg Palace, former residence of the emperors, and learned about the court balls, with their grandeur and elaborate costumes. I just know some spectacular tutus would have been twirling around that dance floor!

To be completely honest, I haven't had much time for clothes shopping this week ā€“ I've been too busy twirling, waltzing, and getting lost in history! But Vienna's fashion scene has already charmed me, with boutiques showcasing exquisite Viennese craftsmanship, as well as internationally renowned designers.

And how can I talk about Vienna without mentioning the divine pastries and cakes?! Every cafe I've stepped into seems to offer a delicious new variation on a Viennese classic. Whether it's Apfelstrudel or a Sachertorte, Iā€™m convinced thereā€™s a perfect pastry for every pink tutu lover!

However, I mustnā€™t forget the traditional dishes, the flavour of Vienna that goes beyond the sweet. The Wiener Schnitzel is something every gourmand must try, and with every bite I feel the spirit of Vienna in its golden, crisp batter!

This weekā€™s been an unforgettable journey filled with captivating dance, delectable desserts, and a touch of fairytale magic. As I embark on my train journey back to my next destination, Iā€™m already looking forward to sharing more Viennese adventures with you in next weekā€™s blog post. Until then, donā€™t forget to wear your pink tutus, and let the magic of ballet twirl into your everyday life!

Pinkly yours,

Emma

P.S. This Saturday marks the premiere of ā€œThe Nutcrackerā€ at the Vienna State Opera! Donā€™t miss it if you can ā€“ the enchanting performance and spectacular costumes are truly magical. Itā€™s an opportunity to let the wonder and beauty of ballet sweep you away! I know I'll be there in the front row, twirling my pink tutu with glee!
