Pink Tutu Vienna - Blog Post #105
Wednesday, 7th May 1997
Darling readers,
Greetings from Vienna! I arrived this morning after a whirlwind journey across Europe, travelling by train and arriving with a delightful little horse-drawn carriage from the station. I always think it's so lovely when towns and cities hold on to a little bit of their past, even if they're as glamorous as Vienna!
This city has a truly enchanting air, and my first glimpse of the Steffl Department Store had me practically swooning. The delicate pink blooms of their flower stall caught my eye like a mischievous cherub whispering sweet secrets. I simply had to visit. The sheer volume of fabulous hats, exquisite handbags, and stunning evening gowns sent me into a delightful sartorial spin. My dearest, I truly believe I have found a little bit of my fashion soul here!
But it isn't just the fashion that draws me in; the music here, my darlings! I had to start my afternoon with a visit to the Musikverein, Vienna’s concert hall (the most beautiful concert hall in the world, in my humble opinion!). The walls buzz with a centuries-old symphony, a testament to the grandeur of this historic building. I could practically feel the energy of Mozart, Beethoven, and Strauss vibrating in the air. I must confess, it felt like a privilege to stand in this very space and imagine those legendary composers creating their masterpieces. I even caught a glimpse of a charming violinist on his way into the hall, his silver bow case gleaming with the promise of pure musical enchantment.
The Vienna State Opera is a haven for any ballet enthusiast, but it’s the Vienna Ballet, with their exquisite performances, that truly captivates my heart. I shall be making my way to their rehearsal studio tomorrow for a behind-the-scenes peek and perhaps even a little waltz lesson – I can already hear the whispers of Strauss' waltzes tempting me.
My blog would be remiss if it didn't acknowledge the "ballet fever" sweeping across Vienna. It’s no surprise to find graceful ballerinas twirling in the cobbled streets, their pink tutus billowing with every pirouette. It’s truly delightful! My pink tutu feels right at home amidst this swirling tapestry of dance and enchantment. And as I wander the charming alleyways, I dream of twirling and dipping amongst the historic buildings, sharing the magic of ballet with the entire city!
After a delectable supper of Wiener Schnitzel at Figlmüller, I was positively buzzing. Now, off to bed! The city sleeps, but my mind is already overflowing with the exciting possibilities awaiting me in this beautiful and historical city!
Speaking of possibilities, I have a surprise planned for you all. Tomorrow, I am taking a trip to the Schloss Schönbrunn, Vienna’s most famous palace. My darling, this imperial residence boasts a vast and magnificent park with enchanting gardens and even a zoo. We’ll be strolling amongst the flowers and admiring the intricate architecture – and of course, no trip to Schönbrunn is complete without a spin through the elegant, horse-drawn carriage that graces the grounds! Be sure to join me next week for a peek inside Vienna’s most regal abode.
Until next time, my darlings. Stay stylish and dance your heart out!
Love, Emma
