Vienna Waltz: A Tutu Tale #120
Wednesday 20th August, 1997
Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad blogger, Emma, reporting live from Vienna, Austria! The air here is buzzing with a heady mix of waltz music, fragrant pastries, and a vibrant sense of history that just makes my heart sing.
This week has been an absolute whirlwind of culture, shopping, and of course, tutu-themed delights! I arrived in Vienna on Monday, stepping off the train at the majestic Wien Hauptbahnhof station like a princess stepping into a fairytale. You know I can't resist a grand entrance, even in a simple, yet stylish, pink tutu dress!
The first thing I did, after checking into my charming hotel - complete with a chandelier that looked like it had been designed by Marie Antoinette herself - was to head to the legendary Kunsthistorisches Museum. Can you believe, it boasts the largest collection of Bruegel paintings in the world?! It's like a dream come true for an art-lover like me.
Now, Vienna is a city with a truly regal past, and the Hofburg Palace, the former winter residence of the Habsburgs, really brought it home. The sheer size and opulence of this palace is incredible - I even managed to sneak a peek at the Emperor’s apartments (where the tutus are stored... just kidding!), but seriously, you just get swept away by its history and grandeur.
Later that day, after an elegant luncheon of schnitzel and strudel (oh the glorious food!), I finally made it to the Vienna State Opera House! Let me tell you, my darlings, this place is the stuff of legends! The opera itself was breathtaking - an unforgettable rendition of "The Magic Flute" with the most incredible costumes - some of which were positively tutusque! I even caught the eye of a dashing young man sitting in the front row, and I swear, I could practically hear the strains of "Swan Lake" in the air! I was ready to twirl right down the aisle after that!
Speaking of tutus, I just have to tell you about the amazing shop I discovered yesterday. It’s called ModeWelt. Oh, my dear readers, you wouldn't believe the tutus they had! They even had one made of genuine pink Austrian silk! And naturally, I had to try it on.
After all, it wouldn't be a true Emma-in-Vienna experience without a little shopping therapy. My luggage is already starting to overflow, but that’s nothing a few more fabulous pieces of vintage clothing can’t solve. And besides, I’ll be needing my very best pink tutu for tonight! I’ve heard that Vienna’s nightlife is fantastic!
Speaking of Vienna’s vibrant energy, my love affair with this city continues today. We’re off to the Schönbrunn Palace - another grand castle that’s practically begging for a royal tutu parade - followed by an afternoon spent indulging in Vienna’s charming shops. It's the perfect excuse to pick up a few little something-somethings. Just imagine how gorgeous the crystal ornaments and dainty porcelain teacups will look back in Derbyshire, nestled in my boudoir.
But the best part of the day, is the grand finale: a live performance of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra! It’s like stepping into the world of Strauss waltzes and swirling ballroom gowns! I know you’ll all be excited to hear all about it in my next post.
The good thing is I’ll be posting every week! Tune in next Wednesday, darlings, as I continue my Vienna adventure. And don't forget, every day is a chance to put on a pink tutu and embrace life's little magic!
Until next time,
Emma xx
