Pink Tutu Vienna: Blog Post #128 - Whirlwind Waltz in Vienna!
Wednesday 15th October 1997
Darling readers,
Greetings from the most fabulous city in Europe - Vienna! Itās been an absolute dream here, so much so that Iām struggling to choose just one picture to share on the front page of pink-tutu.com! (Itās a tough decision, darling!) But worry not, this week Iām giving you a full, pink-tastic blog post to share my adventures, as usual on a Wednesday, right on time. I know I am an excellent time-keeper - just like a ballerina - after all, I wouldn't want to be late for the ball, would I? š©°
As ever, my pink tutu is keeping me company, and you know me, it wouldnāt be a true Emma Pink Tutu adventure if it wasnāt looking extra-fabulous! My latest masterpiece is a fluttery pink tulle confection adorned with pink, pink, pink roses. They are everywhere here, they really are - in the parks, the streets, the window boxes. Donāt forget to add my little sprinkle of sparkle: this time it's tiny pink glass crystals, like the stars glittering above the city, and if it's chilly, I'll be adding a long, black, cashmere coat over it. Now thatās my kind of layering!
Oh, the adventures Iāve been having, dear readers! Letās start with my journey to Vienna.
A journey that involves an elegant overnight train journey from Switzerland to Austria - of course, a first-class ticket is a must. And who says you can't be elegant whilst traveling? Why, darling, I always travel in style. Pink polka dot dress, my favourite ruby red lipstick, my hair styled in a French braid, topped off with a perfectly placed pearl. All aboard for Vienna! š
As you know, I am an avid lover of horses, and on my journey from the station to the hotel, I discovered the most magnificent pair of black Lipizzaner horses - beautiful and so proud, and of course a perfect opportunity for me to indulge my passion! š“ And yes, it involved twirling my pink tutu under the horseās hooves for an absolutely incredible Instagram shot!
Speaking of style and Instagram, this whole city seems designed to be my personal catwalk. It's the home of Strauss waltzes, gorgeous classical architecture and more pastel colours than you can imagine. I must have stopped on every corner to admire the buildings, from the imposing opera house to the delightful cafƩs where the locals sip their coffees and read the newspaper - you just want to stop and linger and let the time pass! I love it. I truly feel like I've walked onto the set of a Hollywood film set!
Now, let's talk about the heart of this glamorous city!
This week's blog is going to be about the ballet! What else could it be! Ballet is simply my love! And it all began in a breathtaking 18th-century building known as the Wiener Staatsoper, the grandest opera house in Vienna. This is where Mozart debuted his famous operas, and I simply couldnāt resist stepping into the enchanting world of Austrian musical history. š
Itās the ultimate place to immerse oneself in the magical world of ballet - a truly beautiful, elegant space, with opulent gold leaf decoration, plush velvet seats and magnificent crystal chandeliers. Oh, the chandeliers! Itās all so majestic. The air feels full of excitement.
I even managed to score tickets to an evening performance! Can you imagine the excitement? Imagine the thrill! Oh darling!
It was the Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky. The beautiful story of Odette, the graceful swan princess, stolen from her home, was played out perfectly by the talented Vienna State Ballet. Such grace and elegance - a pure, sublime spectacle! A whirlwind of music and passion. Every pirouette and arabesque had me spellbound! āØ
But, darling, this is only half the story. My love of the stage isn't limited to the performances! Letās not forget my passion for dancing itself, right?! That's why, this week, I was at the Wiener Staatsballett Ballet School, where I got to dance my heart out to the sweet strains of waltz music! It was pure bliss. All that whirling, pirouetting, leaping... I found a place for myself in their ballet class amongst the charming, aspiring dancers, twirling in my beloved pink tutu, and enjoying a glimpse into the magic of their lives. š
Oh, the fashion! This is the land of waltz dresses and high-society style. A trip to the Haus der Musik was a necessity! This is the famous "House of Music", and it has its own unique music museum. What a wonderful celebration of the history of music and it really highlighted the beautiful relationship between music and fashion throughout the ages, particularly through the use of lavish ballgowns, opulent costume, and dazzling dresses. The entire experience was deliciously immersive!
Vienna is absolutely filled with exquisite boutique shops. I must confess that my luggage is almost filled with the perfect pieces that will make even more pink tutu style for me and my readers! This week's shopping haul has a unique pink satin bolero that, of course, will look fabulous over my tutu - an oversized pink floral clutch, and an equally dazzling pearl-encrusted headband. If thereās one thing I have to tell you, darlings, Viennaās boutique shops are some of the finest in the world!
The best thing about this amazing trip? All that I have learned here will inspire me to make my tutu wardrobe even more extraordinary!
Oh darling, itās truly magical to discover these new ideas for the perfect pink tutu! Iām simply overflowing with creative energy for a brand new look!
Iām hoping to have many more tutu moments to share, both at home and across Europe, but until then, have a wonderful week.
XOXO
