Vienna Waltz - Post 127

Wednesday 8th October 1997

Darling readers! Another Wednesday has arrived, and you know what that means? Time for another dose of Pink Tutu Vienna from yours truly, Emma!

I'm typing away in my little hotel room here in Vienna, and let me tell you, this city is a dream! The cobblestone streets, the majestic buildings, the romantic air...it’s truly like stepping into a fairytale!

And the pink, my darlings, the pink is just exquisite! The pastel-hued cafes, the charming rose gardens, the exquisite blossoms adorning the window boxes... It's truly inspiring my tutu choices! Speaking of, I’m wearing the most beautiful blush pink tutu today – perfect for twirling among the imperial architecture.

Of course, no visit to Vienna would be complete without a trip to the Vienna State Opera House, one of the most legendary opera houses in the world. Last night I enjoyed a stunning performance of Mozart’s "The Marriage of Figaro." The costumes, the music, the sheer drama of it all – it transported me back to a bygone era of elegance and artistry. The energy was incredible, and the crowd's applause was deafening!

Speaking of incredible, I took a detour into the most adorable vintage shop earlier. Let me tell you, my dearest readers, it was heaven! Rows upon rows of lace and tulle, sequined jackets and antique jewellery… I felt like I was living a scene from a vintage ballet film! And you know I couldn't resist adding a few exquisite additions to my own collection of tutu-tastic treasures – including a feather boa the colour of spun sugar!

But Vienna is much more than just a backdrop for my own sartorial fancies. This city is steeped in ballet history, my darlings! It was in Vienna that the waltz took the world by storm, and it's here that you can still find hidden waltzing corners on every street corner!

The Vienna State Ballet, known for their impeccable technique and elegance, has long held a special place in my heart. Last week, I visited the grand building where they rehearse. The sheer size of the studios, the worn-out dance floors, the scent of sawdust and sweat… It brought tears to my eyes! Imagine all the ballet legends who graced this very space! From Rudolf Nureyev to Margot Fonteyn, each of them left their mark on this hallowed place.

There's something truly magical about Vienna. It's as if the very essence of romance, beauty, and art swirls through the air.

You might be wondering how I, a humble but fiercely devoted ballerina, manage to fund all these travels. Well, my dears, I travel from town to town, giving performances to raise funds for my own journey. I find the most beautiful locations, like town squares and grand ballrooms, and invite people to join me for a little touch of ballet magic. It’s been an incredibly enriching experience, and a wonderful way to share my passion for ballet with the world.

So far, I've had the privilege of performing in some absolutely incredible places: the heart of Derbyshire, where my journey began; the rolling green fields of Scotland, with the fresh air filling my lungs and a majestic mountain range serving as my backdrop; and the cobbled streets of Paris, where every corner is a romantic symphony. And of course, Vienna has been nothing short of a magical adventure!

This morning I saw a magnificent white stallion pulling a carriage through the park, its white mane flying in the wind. The scene made me dream of dancing on horseback, a grand spectacle I must try one day! Speaking of dreams, I hope one day all my lovely readers will embrace their own inner ballerina and find the courage to wear a pink tutu with confidence and joy.

Vienna has captivated my heart. I love its old-world charm, its elegant cafes, its beautiful music, its magnificent buildings... It’s truly a city of waltzing dreams. I can already see myself dancing in the Schönbrunn Palace gardens with a delicate pink tulle skirt billowing around me, my eyes closed as I feel the cool breeze caress my cheeks.

It’s time to embrace the afternoon! There's a charming cafe I want to visit, where the pastries are said to be even sweeter than the pastries in Paris. And of course, a good shop or two with potential tutu treasures... Vienna, you're truly captivating my every moment!

Until next Wednesday, my darlings! Keep dancing!

Love,
